i wont be having any preference as i never read the manga/novel. so it would be unfair to pick a side/preference on this

but just the anime itself it has a place in my book
and by that i mean i like it, and would hope for a season2 hehe

well, the manga started without telling how murasaki n shinkurou met. n tell bout his work as mediator, (1st chapter bout stalkers, 2nd bout protecting a certain girl (kinda like murasaki case, born as a tool in a family), 3rd bout Ginko giving him take care of dog coz hes broke, 4th bout sexual assault in the neighbouthood. of coz there are filler in de story, n i think its bout to enter the story on how Shinkurou n Murasaki 1st met (if the anime follow exactly in novel, perhaps it would be the same. well that where the scanlation reached so far)
