The real deal. This was from Tokyo Narita to Kota Kinabalu, hence the WBKK ETA you can see from the left FMC. The reflection on top was from my clipboard.
Personally, I loathe the Airbuses. They are the epitome of "flying by wire" not "flying by feel". Imagine driving your car by tapping in buttons instead of wheels and pedals. You dont FEEL the flying. Plus, the Airbus A380 looks like a short fat sausage to me. |

@ff8ong
I don't think there is any other airline in the country that goes to Tokyo or have 777s in their fleet. |

QUOTE(frozzbyte @ Sep 8 2008, 04:59 PM) You betcha! You can check if a pic is snapped with whatever device, by using an EXIF data checker. I was very lucky to get them close to me, I've personal photos of them posing with me and my excited party who went with me that day. Even had Jasmine and Aladdin, as well as those wacky green toy soldiers from Toy Story point their green toy guns to my head while my photo was snapped. QUOTE(jakesean @ Sep 8 2008, 08:11 PM) so, is it true that we have to really turn off our mp3 players during take off and landing? or its just plain BS? QUOTE(nokia2003 @ Sep 8 2008, 08:18 PM) ahem, i hope that stringfellow doesn't retaliate violently towards this but i have tried switching on my mobile phone when the plane was cruising up the air and of course there wasn't any signal detected... QUOTE(jakesean @ Sep 8 2008, 08:45 PM) We are not actually worried about equipments screwing up the navigation system, or the autolanding/autopilot couplings to the Instrument Landing System on the runway, but more of weeding out WHICH equipment is producing the fault. Let me explain.Imagine you're on a trip to New York in winter. Blizzard with heavy precipitation, and turbulence. Visibility reduced to minimum available, forcing an autolanding. Autoland allows the plane to come down as close as 20 feet from the ground, but all the necessary prerequisites must be fulfilled. (I wont bore you with the details). Imagine it is a full flight, close to 300 passangers and everyone decides to use their Mp3 players, laptops, PSPs, Nintendo DSes, PDas and such, and the autoland system trips off because of the inteference from all the electronic equipments turned on. Now, more often than not, it is most probably only ONE of all these electronic equipments turned on is messing with the autoland system, but which of the possible 300 electronics used on board by the passangers is causing this? You're coming into New York, shaking and bumping in turbulence, rain, sleet and snow outside making visibility practically zero. And the autoland system trips at 50 feet. Do you think the time between the autoland trips at the height of 50 feet, and the time of landing (hopefully a proper one, not an impact!) is enough to get the cabin crew to look around the cabin and check which electronic equipment is messing with the aircraft system? At critical times like these, it is prudent to put all electronic equipments to OFF so that we dont have to deal with situation like these. If you are in cruise, then the time between cruising at 35,000 feet till you hit the ground (worse case scenario) is more than enough to filter out which electronic equipment in the cabin being used is the culprit. But what if that electronic equipment produces an anomaly that tampers with the control system of the aircraft? Autopilot screwing up and you're flying near the Himalayas, Karakoram or the highlands of India/Iran/Afghanistan (which is the typical route to Europe byt he way) and decides to fly it into the face of a mountain? Would anyone want to take that risk? Frankly, I pray I dont have to face that kind of situation, but we are trained to do so if situation arises. But even we ourselves sometimes turn on our phones below 10,000 feet because you can get signals from there already. Before you scream "Aiks, you guys also do it!?", consider this. If something does go wrong, we already know which one of us is the source of the interfering equipment. It is easier to isolate the source from 4 phones (there are four of us upfront in the cockpit on long haul flights), rather than 300 other various equipments in the cabin, isnt it? Sorry, longwinded post. But it is necessary to fend off the myth, or fear of, switching electronic equipments in flight. Already new planes being insulated from interfering signals from onboard electronics from passanger devices, but situation may arise like I described earlier that still warrants the issue of statement "Please turn off your electronic equipment when the seatbelt sign is switched on during descent", to avoid complications I've described earlier. Please dont make my job harder than it is already. |

To bring back to the topic at hand,
![]() Sleeping Beauty's Castle in Paris, the most beautiful of all Disneyland castles in the world It even comes with its own animatronic Dragon in its dungeon, and a lavish table-service restaurant in its upper tiers. But for the ultimate experience, Orlando's Cinderella's Castle still cant be beat with its own 17th Century Suite! Yes, you get to STAY INSIDE the Castle! |

Speaking of accidents......
![]() Who drove that Holedigger onto the side of that mountain!? Let's pan out further..... ![]() Before there was the movie in 3D, there was the Ride. Presenting "The Journey to The Center of The Earth" Ride in Tokyo DisneySea. Yes, the ride is INSIDE that volcano, and Disney build the entire volcano to fit the humongous ride inside it. Wait time for this, on a typical summer day, would be 3 hours MINIMUM. This post has been edited by stringfellow: Sep 10 2008, 01:00 AM |

QUOTE(friends @ Sep 11 2008, 01:17 AM) really a nice view.... all planes use Rolls Royce engine ? Depends on which configurations the airline orders. Some go for Rolls Royce, others go Pratt & Whitney. As for the cruising level, depends on a lot of things too, primarily weight, upper wind conditions, and economic/cost index.OT : normally u guys fly on how high above ? ![]() Fire.....
