I'm phone up canon Malaysia this after once my lens arrived, they say international warranty is accepted.

So next time spend less to buy international warranty Canon item.

This time i need to increase the warranty from 1 year to 3 years from Canon Malaysia.

The reason i bought a proper EOS5D with a Malaysian warranty instead of a grey set is because i expected better service by getting it via the offical channels, i don't see why my EOS5D becomes any less of a Canon product and liability when its geographical location changes.

Haih, if i didn't have so many L-classes i would have jumped ship to 35mm film Cosina or rangefinders like the Ikon and the Leicas. No doubt digital is easier, but with the QC Canon is putting in these days and the shitty tolerances in manufacturing, i doubt any of it's advantages will save it now.

Nearly all of my shots are done MF now due to the crappy AF.

Although my dislike for Canon is growing, i would still consider the buggy EOS 1Ds Mark III provided i can get a job here, due simply to it's AF adjusting ability, build tolerance and tone highlight. But that's still about 24 effin K. Although if i work at the local Subway or Noodlebox for the next 7 months i probably could afford it even with my student hours.

Is enough if u can own 1D on ur hand.

Maybe u not so lucky to get the 5D with some problem.

Normally this range camera will have the best QC. Not error is effort to happen but somehow..................it happen.

Yesh yesh still a student, but pay here is quite good at 20 AUD an hour, and assuming my maximum is 20 hours a week, i probably can afford a 1Ds Mark III in a 6 months if the price doesn't go down.

The 5D was sell sponsored off profits from various investments, writing and electronics jobs, which makes it even more disappointing since it took be a good 5 months to get that cash. But really lah, the 5D's AF problems are really vexing, especially for a camera of this price.

Wooooooooooooo. I've been trying to get a bird in flight for 2 days. I tried it with my 55-250 IS lens yesterday n it was a total failure. All blur coz the focus is just too slow.

I brought out my 70-200 today n finally got the shot I wanted.

Hehe... a plane , A bird... No.. its.. Ian with his 70-200...

different between L series and normally lens.

No doubt u can get a good short.

55-250IS is not for wildlife and sport lens.

This is slow.

Ya lor, the 55-250 IS is very good value for money but oni can use on static subjects so the IS is good for that. For moving subjects, we can just forget about it. The 70-200 focussing is like Superman. I think I will be getting the 1.4x white tele converter soon. That wud be sweeeeeeeeeeeeet. 280mm after 1.6 crop =450mm zoom!!!

One thing i'm dissapointed about canon is the noise control.. always get sticks from nikonians esp teh D300..

Brother D300 is using CMOS sensor, their noise control is about the same lah.

Sure D300 is winner. 40D is not far behind.

IIRC they extend both the minimum and maximum focal lenghts by their respective magnification factors.

They do have limitations and generally use the same amount of glass (look up Telephotogroup : Glass amount is the same, only total length is higher) and that's why i believe they're the same price, the 1.4x only imparts 1 stop worth Aperture penalty and the 2.0 imparts 2 stops of aperture penalty. Also makes shots a little fuzzier and less sharp, and if your viewfinder is dark or if you're using an MF focusing screen, expect it to be downright unusable. It also degrades AF performance and makes it hunt more.

I use the 2x for Nature shots. If you plan on doing low light, ultra bokeh, fast action shooting, get a new lense lah. But this is great for accessing nature especially if you're equipped with the 70-200 2.8

Maaaaaaaaaaaaan that duck shot made me go "What the DUCK!". It's really nice dude. U missed out 1 point about the 1.4x n 2x. The reason I want the 1.4x is coz my lens is f4. To keep autofocus we need to keep at or below f5.6 unless we have the EOS1D series. If I buy the 2x I will not have autofocus n that will be a total beach.

Oh another thing is that ur only getting 400mm with 2x coz of ur fancy Schmancy EOS 5D. I will be getting 450mm with 1.4x on my 1.6 crop EOS 40D. Muahahaha.

I understand the difference between 2x and 1.4x more or less, but the question was how come both same pricing.

I would have thought that the 2x would be more expensive.

BTW,. how come 2x autofocus would not work ah? and why must aperture be <5.6 for it to work?

All EOS bodies will only AF at or below f5.6. The only body that does AF above f5.6 is the EOS1 series.

Like i said, both have the same amount of glass in them.



The only difference is that the metal body is longer, other than that, there's no difference that would add to cost.
