I read somewhere that UKM is a university with malay language as the medium. (Universiti yang meggunakan bahasa kebangsaan sebagai bahasa pengantar)...

Not that they're stuck with BM, it's just that the university itself was founded to be a bm medium university.
TS please check for facts. I could be wrong. Cheers.

Our Mission

UKM is the National University that safeguards the sovereignty of the Malay language while globalizing knowledge in the context of local culture.

Nowadays it's pretty lenient. You can use both languages as long you can get the facts right.

UKM was setup with the main intention of using BM as its main teaching language. This was back when UM was still using English and UPM did not yet exist in its current form.

BM is not adequate as a language for use in science and math, especially globally when BM speaking countries are lagging in the field of science and technology. Mostly because BM in its current form is still a new language and we have sucky technical translators.

student have no problem reading and answering in english. but you can't expect teacher who teach math for 20 years to suddenly teach in english. they'll just read from the book.

I was told by friends in UKM and UPM few years back that they had to do double work - submit same assignment/report in both BM and BI.
BM for lecturer to mark (cos their BI not too good) and BI for record keeping.
Which is plain dumb if you ask me.
