SoundProof Mat is a modified bitumen which is specially designed for car sound-proofing. On the other hand, the normal bitumen at hardware shop is used for roofing if I am not mistaken. If you use that for your car, it sure will melt after few months of installation. No doubt it's much cheaper but it's not suitable for car sound-proofing.
