i dont get it.. if the ps3 requires 8-10gb installation.. the xbox360 has a 9gb dvd.. i think i jus lost my maths..

its uncompressed on the BD? or its their both using different files sizes.. rumors tongue.gif .. sigh

anyways the kicker is here.

Subtle PS3 & 360 GTA IV Differences Revealed

I probably wouldn't have noticed anything had I only had access to one platform, but I noticed the "whores" on the PS3 seemed to "do their business" quicker than the 360 whores. When I brought up the observation, one of the testers replied "Yeah, the PS3 whores are faster... they're streamed off the hard drive... the 360 whores have to be read from disc. Take a close look... the 360 whores are actually drawn to be a little older and they're more haggard looking. It's an inside joke of the programmers and artists." as he chuckled. He then looked around to see if his boss was listening and whispered "the whores on the 360 version only have red lipstick on 3/4 of their mouths... check it out next time you play, but don't make it to obvious, we're hoping to slip that one through certification testing. Brad, the artist that did that, calls it the Red Ring of Herpes!"

Be sure to check back for parts 2 and 3 of Sarcastic Gamer's look at Grand Theft Auto IV for the PS3 and 360.

Its all because of Blu-Ray.

Generally speaking, on a DVD the DVD-drive can read the data off the disc through a variant of different speeds(be it 4x, 8x, 12x and so on) depending on what data is being accessed. We all know that DVD-drives are faster than Blu-Ray drives currently, so loading times aren't such an impact.

For the Blu-Ray however, it is designed in a way that the disc can only be read by ONE speed(which currently is 2x on the PS3). Therefore, add to the fact that uncompressed sound files(or so developers says) the reading times on Blu-Ray is marginally longer. Developers then use the installation procedure to load some of the data on the disc to the HDD.

Of course, then what about the games which has optional installation features? Its simple, what the developers do is write the same data on a magnitude of different data layers on the Blu-Ray. This would decrease load times as the drive can access the same data on more than one data sector on a disc. Also explain why some games like Resistance where developers says they fill the Blu-Ray disc up to the brim, its just a process of copying the same data onto a different sectors on the Blu-Ray disc itself.

I hope these sort of installation nonsense doesn't become a trend. Pity the 20GB and 40GB users.

oh i c! Quite a smart way the resistance group did it! Since they have lots of space in the disc why not copy and fill some place up! Just tat they need to do some mapping on how to read the files from the disc onli!

Check it out -- THE FIRST GTA IV REVIEW:

http://www.cgreviews.com/

" know, you want details, but all I can confirm is split-screen on PS3 only. I was alone, so I didn't actually get to have any matches, but I could tell that the split-screen worked really well. There was a significant decrease in the amount of traffic and pedestrians, but it didn't ruin anything. This is understandable. Rendering two instances of Liberty City is a chore for any machine."
