Microsoft released the HD AV pack for the Xbox, along with the advanced AV pack during its lifetime. The advanced AV pack was basically an S-Video cable. The HD AV pack was probably an industry first. From day one, gamers with HD ready televisions could make use of the increased picture quality. The pack supports 480p, 720p and 1080i.

Although the PS2 also had a component AV cable, not many games supported progressive scan. Though some gamers might poo-poo the idea at the time, there's no denying the impact good visuals can have on gaming. I know I enjoyed it! I don't think you can find the official Microsoft pack anymore, but you can still find 3rd party brands around. Although even they're not common anymore.
