Oh ya, i heard that there are certain Maxis 3G sim cards cannot be used...or was it only half-functioning (sending SMS is not possible). Any idea?

If there is really such a problem, can i replace my 3G sim with a normal one?

guys, i got a question. how much will i be taxed if i were to ask someone to buy an iphone from us and courier it to me?

I think it would be better you just get it from one of the forumers here if you were to import one back urself. I heard the tax is ridiculously high.

Download the package called KB under Tweak category. Then head to your keyboard settings page and you shall be able to see the option to disable that function.

Does the latest ZiPhone will still downgrade the iPhone's bootloader by using the DO IT ALL! function?

mmm...just select Advanced and untick Downgrade BL. and then click Perform Action. that's just another 3 clicks away rite?
Ah yeah i juz had a look at the latest ZiPhone and indeed it has such option. Then why did someone said that unlocking must be done using the older ZiPhone in order not for it to downgrade the bootloader?

But anyway, BL 3.9 only advantage is the ability to use the LocateMe function? So far what's the best combo of BL and Baseband?

if using older ZiPhone it will surely not downgrade the bootloader as it doesn't have that feature. so it's just a safety precaution for some people and they can rest assure with using older version (so eliminating the potential of accidentally selecting Full Unlock).

mmm...btw to unlock 1.1.4 u need to use the latest ZiPhone though.

dunno much, but maybe some under-the-hood features with the latest baseband. but I haven't known any of it. just that the Map's Location feature can only being used with the unlocked 4.03G and up, and the modem firmware version can only being unlocked with AnySIM, and in order for it to be unlocked it need to be run on BL3.9. if u r on BL4.6 ZiPhone will patch the firmware with GUnlock-styled unlock (which then downgrade to an earlier version of patched modem firmware).

hoho...y not try use the fakeblank BL3.9? gaining all the BL3.9 function while u can safely return to 4.6. dunno how it works.

mmm btw just skip 1.1.3. choose either 1.1.2 or 1.1.4. 1.1.3 is too buggy IMHO.

so if u use BL4.6, u can only use modem firmware 4.02G (as patched using GUnlock or ZiPhone). as for BL3.9 u can use the modem firmware originally came with the software firmware itself. it is not the combo, it is what the unlock decides to patch after detection of bootloader version, sort of.

I could compromise of not having the latest baseband but not the bootloader. I was understood that once the bootloader is downgraded, there isn't a way to upgrade it back. Well, at least not without cracking up (literally) the iPhone.

Thus far, the LocateMe function doesn't attract me enough to downgrade to BL 3.9 (ok, it's not like i have the iPhone already but in the stage of collecting more info first laa). I don't exactly know what the newer bootloader has to offer but to be safe, i think i'll stick to it.

When i say combo, i mean would it be better to have BL 3.9 + baseband (insert number here) or BL 4.6 + baseband 4.02G(?). I'm having my iPod touch now (which will have to be sold to fund my iPhone soon) and it is in 1.1.3 and i think it is running fine =)

And oh! Thank you for your answers and reply. I appreciate it.

Yeah but then i was thinking that's not too good of an idea since i'd like to use MMS too.

Oh one more thing. Any iPhone purchased from Apple Store in the US need not to be activated on the spot, rite? But it sure comes with a 2-year AT&T subscription, rite?

if not activated with AT&T, it will not come with the 2 year subscription.

But if i remember correctly someone mentioned that all the iPhones come with a 2-year subscription but you're not required to activate it on the spot. My friend who was trying to get one for me was asked to get a 2-year subscription.

ok, to make it clear, iPhone in US is marketed with 2-year AT&T telco contract. it is like this:

1. Buy iPhone via Apple Store / AT&T Store / Apple Online Store
2. Connect The iPhone to iTunes, it will launch AT&T Activation
3. Select the AT&T package to be used with iPhone
4. The billing starts and the iPhone is activated

so basically the 2-year contract only starts if u initiate the activation via iTunes. so then only after 2 years of tenuring with AT&T, u'll got the iPhone fully unlocked (supposed to be lah).

so the concept is that if u haven't done the activation via iTunes, u'll not necessarily tied to the contract anymore. so as u don't use the iPhone AT&T plan, u'll not tied. so u just need to aware that this is illegal though (hohoho...).

sometimes the store (especially AT&T Store) will ask for activation on the spot. just give excuse as like u r doing the activation at home, or the iPhone is a gift. another alternative is buying through the Apple Online Store.

so if u r not activating it via iTunes, u'll bypass the contract part.

Thanks again LaskarCinta. Yeah i'm asking my friend to coax and BS his way thru laaaaa. Waiting for my baby =(

i think i'll just go with ZiPhone to do the a-j-u for me. I'm aware that ZiPhone will automatically downgrade my bootloader to 3.9 if i hit the "Do It All" button. So just to re-confirm, instead of "Do It All", i go to the advanced settings, check Activate-Jailbreak-Unlock instead to a-j-u without downgrading the bootloader? I dont want to end up with a 3.9 since it is irreversible.

After some reading, it seems like iPlus is a safer way to unlock since it will only downgrade the bootloader if its necessary. And best of all, the process is reversible! Anyone can share their personal experience here with iPlus?

Ermph this is weird. I a-j-u'ed with iPlus 2.0 which is supposedly only for 1.1.4 but it somehow works with my 1.1.3 =.="

But anyway, any idea if i could copy my contacts from SIM to the phone?
