1st case problem : http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/634995

Referring to my previous thread in Technical Support. I'm experiencing problems with Windows Bootup after a few days I installed a new Seagate 500GB 7200.11 32MB HDD. Initially I thought my new HDD is the culprit till at a stage where I'm not be able to install Windows into the C: partition where the setup shows "disk read error" after formatting the partition and copying the Windows installation files. Also I'm having problem deleting a few files on the HDD which said to be corrupted sweat.gif

I changed my Seagate 500GB 7200.11 32MB HDD with a new one (thanks for the kind shopkeeper to allow me to exchange even thou already two weeks I bought the drive). This time I installed in AHCI mode (SATA mode) instead of IDE mode for the SATA HDD which enables SATA feature such as NCQ and hot-swappable. Everything seems to be fine and smooth till I experienced twice system hang when I tried to open My Document while my IDM downloading some large files. The response lagging and then hangs at a stage.

First reset will reach the Windows loading screen like years and wouldn't boot.
Second reset will give option to select Safe Mode etc. and I select Safe Mode and it'll hang after loading all the necessary files.
Third reset will shows drive C: chkdsk and it shows no bad sector and only be able to boot into Windows.

Twice occurance also the same and I get this message on my Event Viewer:

DISK ERROR

DISK WARNING

I really doubt if my HDD fails me again sweat.gif. Could it be the RAM or motherboard ICH9R? Or just some corrupted application? unsure.gif

Honestly, I don't think it is my PSU problem which provide insufficient juice. I just did a random googling and found that not only me, but quite a number of users having problem with the iastor error thingy. Now I switched my Seagate HDD to SATA port 2 and my Samsung HDD to SATA port 4. Lets see if the problem still persist sweat.gif

BTW, none recommending any solution or troubleshooting? unsure.gif

I'm the ONLY unlucky user with such problem? sad.gif

For Vista, there is a hotfix for system which do not able to boot with 4GB RAM.

You will have to see in microsoft for this hotfix. You will have to boot with one stick first and then after installing the hotfix, then installed the other stick.

Karom, FYI I'm using WinXP and currently on WinXP SP3 v3300 RC2.

I checked regarding that hotfix and it's just for Vista, isn't? unsure.gif

Have you try other installation CD? Could be the file already corrupted in the installation CD, so after install, when it need that file, it will fail to load it into memory due to file corrupted...anyway, that's just my guess... icon_rolleyes.gif

Edited to add: just saw you mention about you are using OCZ ram right? Previously my housemate install 2 stick of OCZ 800MHz ram install his PC, and he facing some instability problem also, then he change back to Patriot 800MHz and everything return to normal again, no hang or restart problem...maybe you could try use other ram see see...if you have extra... icon_rolleyes.gif

Thanks a lot for your feedback, Kataro smile.gif. I wouldn't dare to conclude anything at this time, but so far I think I have solved the problem sweat.gif. I wonder it is my ICH9R controller got problem or the SATA port itself. What I did was move the Seagate 500GB HDD (system drive) from SATA port 0 to SATA port 2 and the Samsung 120GB HDD (backup drive) from SATA port 2 to SATA port 4. Voila ~ the read/write delay and HDD error already stop showing up smile.gif.

I happen to do this when I tried to copy a set of files from My Document in my Seagate HDD to a backup folder in my Samsung HDD. That time the Seagate HDD still on SATA port 0 and my Samsung HDD on SATA port 2. During the copying process, the files like getting delay and stuck once a while. In the end, the system hang and I'll need to force reset the system and go through the bootup sequence problem like I mentioned in my first post. Tried to copy the files thrice and all also suffering system hang in the end. Then I will have those errors in my Event Viewer.

Then the next I switched to as I mentioned in this post, the Seagate HDD to SATA port 2 and Samsung HDD to SATA port 4. Till now I didn't receive any more error regarding HDD or bootup sweat.gif. It wasn't me alone with this problem, I tried googling (iastor error) and even some LYN forumer also experiencing the same. Weird case honestly... shakehead.gif

I just tweaked my OCZ ram to 4-4-4-12 @ 2.0V and tested with memtest86+, no error encountered and passed all the test. Thanks god that my ram is safe and good to use smile.gif

Yeah, problem consider solved at the moment... my platform rock solid now even after I overclocked it, but what makes me think now is regarding my mobo's SATA ports or ICH9R controller. It is faulty or it is just normal occurance since not I alone having problem with the iastor error sweat.gif. My motherboard is still new and I really doesn't anything flaw with it sad.gif

Already informed my problem with one of the DFI bulker in the forum and thankfully he said he will forward my problem towards the DFI distributor technician smile.gif

The fault only with my new Seagate 500GB 7200.11 32MB SATA2 HDD... everything seems to be alright with my old Samsung 120GB 8MB SATA HDD. However, I just changed for a new unit of Seagate's HDD, and I don't really think the HDD is the culprit this time around. It could be missing something elsewhere which need to be troubleshooted... sigh ~ sad.gif
