For me, i do the Downlight inside the L box because i no plan always turn on the T5 light through.
Normally just turn on the led downlight only. If wan romantic, just on warm white T5 light through, off downlight.
If my downlight put under L box, center of the living hall not enough bright.


For my master room, i put the light through on top my bed and air con opposite my bed.
Air con there no light through so set more height. Somemore air con is not recommend to set on top of bed, worry leaking.

plain board = flat normal
L box = normal box to cover some pipe without light (the "L" i think is the shape)
Light box = maybe is the downlight under the L box
Light Through = got two type i think
1) Normal Light Through = T5 inside the L box. This type the light is shine to inside. image below


2) Dropped/Secondary Ceiling light through = The whole flat ceiling lower and left some space around like 4inch from wall to put T5 light.
Light shine to outside/wall for this type. image below

The downlight inside L box it is mean u set under the L box.
But if u just turn on the downlight under L box, off the light through and ur room is big, maybe the center will not enough bright.
In that case u need to ask ur main con or ur designer to use more powerful downlight or put more downlight.
