Hi wrb7878, i have some noob questions here as I'm designing the ceiling for my place which has an open layout, so I'm exploring all available options.

From what I found online, I think the sectional view of a L-box with cove lighting is as below.

My question is:

1. For X (flat plaster ceiling), what is the minimum depth if I just want to conceal wiring? And if I want to install downlights too, what is the minimum (using the thinnest downlight)?

2. For Y (L-box width), is there any standard width or can be customized?

3. For Z (L-box depth), is the any standard depth or can be customized? What is the ideal depth to get a nice cove lighting effect? I feel the deeper Z is, the better the lighting effect.

Hi guys! I need your suggestions on plaster ceiling design, as well as contacts of reliable and reasonably priced ceiling + drywall contractor. As you can see below, my unit has a longish open layout living+dining+kitchen. I want to get the soft effects of cove lighting, but I don't want a huge cove ceiling covering the whole space, or double cove ceiling (one over the living area, one over the dining area). I am not planning to install ceiling fans, so there's more flexibility in designing the ceiling and lighting position. Suggestions and contacts are deeply appreciated. Thank you!
