Hmmm.. I like the look of L-box though... Maybe I can consider like this design I found. Not a square all around the ceiling - just on 1 wall or on 2 opposite walls to have an attractive lighting effect.

Do u have plaster ceiling contractor? Ur question they will give u advise. Thickness for plaster ceiling got 8mm to 9mm. They measure first then only know that ur l box can included or not?And if no L box, just a flat plaster ceiling with downlights? How many inches would that take away? 3? 4?
