i m currently looking for a high performance storage too...
but m not sure wat type of settings will i use...
and wat kind of device do i need...
i m looking for something wit hfirewire 800 and arnd 1TB or more...
so any recommendations...are truly welcomed!

may I know what is the machine you are using at the moment?

what kind of jobs that you are doing?

what is your current situation you need to address?

basically, there are Firewire 800 and eSATA solutions available in the market.
if you need a high performance, I would recommend you to go for eSATA at lease a 2-4bay enclosures with a controller card.

Firewire is not a good solutions for work because the Firewire 800 has a maximum DATA transfer. where eSATA can goes up to higher depends on the controller card that you are getting.

The Raid can use for G4, G5, Macpro, macbook pro, via eSATA, express34 controller cards.

if you just want to back up and do not need high performance, then a firewire 800 will do the job.

By the way, it can also used for PC, windows and linux.

Apart of that, once you raid your hdd, you won't be able to install windows via bootcamp. It is kinda a bug. Hope Apple fix that soon

You need a eSATA solutions. if you can get a 4-5bay HDD enclosure with a good controller card for your macpro. You will have a good performance from your Raid 0. you will be able to edit your work real time.

There are a few brand around in the market. Enhance Proavio, Sonnet technologies enclosures,...
for the controller card, there are ATTO, Areca, High point, Sonnet cards available, it's very much depends on your needs and budget.
