Probably a year plus (with constant practice) to be able to play,
and it's going to take a lifetime to Master..... no joke.

Depends what you wish to achieve.
Do you like classical and want to be able to play classical songs? Then go for normal piano classes. Let's just say your target is Grade 8 and each Grade took 1 year (example). Do the math. Depends how fast you pickup and practice, you might take longer...
Also, make sure you're into classical songs.

If you just want to be able to play contemporary songs, there're many types of courses available.
Try:

You'll be learning how to play music by ear using the piano/keyboard without any notes. The cost is considered very cheap if compared against classical piano and it's much much faster to learn, it's utilizing modern teaching methods.

Go for a proper piano if you are serious in learning, for me keyboard is only good for practising. If you really want to get a keyboard, at least at least get a weighted key one, it gives you a feel like 'playing piano', and it will be good for you to control your expression in piano pieces. But still, i would say get a proper piano smile.gif

I started piano last last year, I did not attend any classes. My teachers are sites from internet yet I feel I play better than some people who took class but didnt practise it everyday. What a waste.

I took 1 year to finish 4 grades. I think you can do it too.

If you are really serious about piano then classical piano is better.
Playing classical piano you'll start off slowly, and need to play lots of scales.
You'll learn all the theory stuff in depth.

If just want to play for fun, performance and stuff like that, keyboard would be better.
Keyboard is faster, you'll have to learn about chords, and you'll be able to play pop songs in no time. Also, the theory you learn here is very minimal.

If you plan to go far, I would say classical piano because it builds a stronger foundation in the beginning. A person playing classical piano can play a keyboard, a keyboardist might have a hard time playing classical piano.

I start with organ, hate the noisy sound, change to keyboard
Then when I play keyboard, I would like to play something with my left hand (not just chords), so I change to piano
Until now I still love piano laugh.gif
Just my personal experience
