I just found out that batteries are not covered by ACPP.

I just sent my MacBook in to VR Technology 2 hours ago and they told me that my battery is not covered under ACPP. My battery health is just 25% (According to iStat Pro and CoconutBattery).

The lady said that ACPP will only cover the battery if the battery doesn't charge. My battery still charges but can only use for about 45 minutes at "full charge".

I think ACPP is worth it as it'll give you peace of mind even when your 1 year Apple Limited Warranty is up.

Anyway, my MacBook is with VR Tech now for, according to them, a motherboard change (because the Ethernet doesn't work), palm rest change (mine is the first generation MacBook that suffers from discolouration) and power adapter change (sometimes can charge, sometimes doesn't).

All these for RM689(ACPP price), though I have to fork out RM580 (exchange) or RM700 (new battery) for the battery.

I've been owning Macs since 1991. I would buy ACPP for laptops, probably won't for desktops. I have never bought ACPP at a retail store unless there was a huge discount. I usually buy used or through ebay.

Used?? can buy used ACPP? I thought once it's registered, it's tied to the registered Mac?

I'm on my third battery for a Macbook Pro and I never paid for it to be replaced.
First replacement was for a safety recall with all the exploding laptop batteries a year back. And the 2nd replacement was just replaced yesterday (I love battery cycle count == zero) because BatteryUpdate 1.3 broke the battery.

I feel like I'm walking a very thin tightrope here cause I didn't buy ACPP and any catastrophic failure to my MBP will be absolutely dreadful. But hopefully this thing will still go strong for the next few years as I only need a few more to earn enough to fund a replacement.

I mentioned skipping the iMac since the iMac gets less used and abused unlike a portable, so that will save you some bundle of cash. But if you insist....

On another note: Dell has the optional Complete Cover protection plan on their machines, which covers spills and accidents as well. So if you are a clumsy person or was cursed by a powerful witch, this is a good idea to get...

@BegRedBarr,
How can U even compare the Apple OS with a Dell? tongue.gif

@lokgotz,
I sure didn't know battery wasn't part of the ACPP - thank God i changed mine earlier *smiles*. Well, U could go find someone who's got an less than 1 year MB and replace his batt with urs; get him to take his back to the Apple Store for a new one [gulps... i'm not supposed to be teaching all these things here!]

I voted worth, the peace of mind that comes with it is worth every cent! But I guess one of the main reason is because I bought it at RM699... Haha...

Anyway bout my battery, got a replacement about half a year back because capacity was running low, they didn't ask for ACPP, didn't even test the battery.

My new battery is running well. Just one funny thing, the load cycle sometimes just reset itself, now it shows only 4 load cycles...

@lokgotz,
I wouldn't have done that too; guess our folks taught us well huh? *grins*

@civic98,
Your batt keeps resetting its load cycle? Er well I guess it's a good thing if U like seeing a lowered load cycle; btw at what load cycle does it self-reset? I'd been using my battery v much; i'm at my 39th cycle now sad.gif

I thought of skipping the ACPP for my iMac but decided to get one before the 1st year warranty expires, just in case. Well, it paid off indeed. The combo drive suddenly decides to vomit every type of disc that goes in and when I took it for service, the logic board caput! cool.gif

I got if fixed FOC whistling.gif

A friend's MB HDD died - she spent ~RM280 on the 80GB and RM150 on service charges. If anything else goes wrong, it would have been worth the ACPP tongue.gif

@yawhong,
I don't know if it'll work but i don't think they trace battery serial numbers with the unit - thus it should work tongue.gif

I don't really know when, sometimes it just goes back to 1, well I don't care much about the cycle count, the important thing is the capacity & charge numbers. Funny thing though, my capacity suddenly drops to 88% cry.gif

I got a HDD replacement once, along with it came a few scratches on my Macbook cry.gif Anyway at the same time I bought a bigger HDD and got them to put it in & install everything back for me.

I don't think they do either, cause when I replaced my battery, they didn't check anything.

@civic98,
Her HDD went in with nothing and came back with Leopard installed! I haven't had the chance to play around with the updated OS but will probably kidnap her MB for the weekend or something *grins*

Also, I don't think there's a need to worry about the battery cause mine too sometimes show 88% health but it does go back up to 90%+ the next time I check it.

@lil twist,
I don't think many invests in an ACPP for an iPod - then again, I'm no iPod user so it's best I shut up on this question *grins*
