You must be careful when you have 'sensitive' data on your machine.

QUOTE(mych @ Feb 23 2008, 09:56 AM) this is the treatment for VIP customers.. what sort of treatment for normal customers?? http://www.smh.com.au/news/web/racy-photos...3467294868.html"About 1300 images and videos were copied from his customised Apple MacBook laptop when the computer was sent in for repairs and then systematically released on the internet where they spread quickly through blogs, emails and chat rooms." Added on February 23, 2008, 10:08 amdunno how you feel but I feel really dissapointed.. Hi, It is difficult to trust any repair company especially when there are humans involved. The best defense is offense. Anyone who is considering sending their computer for repairs need to educate themself the risks involved and how to mitigate this risks. Also did you know that deleting a file does not mean you are actually deleting the physical file on your hard disk only the pointer to that file. I have include a few example to mitigate the risks below. For example: 1. Back up to external media and delete the important documents using utilities that support DOD or Gutmann method such as Tuneup Utilities. Then run undelete which will search for file you deleted. Hopefully none are found. 2. Archiving the files using Winrar or Winzip. Of course make sure the password is a combination of letter, number and special character and at least 6 character long.

Mac OS X (since 10.4 Tiger) includes FileVault. It does have a interesting background. use FileVault with care, and do backup everything that's important.

Why single out Apple repair centres?
Do you trust ANY repair centre with sensitive data?
Would you leave nude photographs of yourself in the glove compartment of your car when you send it in for servicing?
Stupid is as stupid does.

Just make sure U don't keep such files and u have nothing to worry about Most people are worried about confidential files; these artistes are worried about their pornographic materia. Gee if you don't want the publicity, don't take such photos! And what is a young man like Edison Chen doing with a "PINK" iBook?

I'd always keep/backup and delete my files onto my external drive before formating it or even sending it over to the shop (rarely).
