Hi MX510,
Thinking to do point to point solution to share service to another house nearby, the 650mW enough to penetrate few row (around 4-5 rows) of 2 storey terrace houses, around 100-150m distant??
The antenna can put in ceilling roof, but not roof top. Any recommendation? Budget RM1k +

Looking for solution, please check the picture, I need to set up a link between these 2 areas, NO LOS, straight line is around 400-500m. All the buildings around the area are almost the same height(include those trees) but the roof is hard to reach so if possible dont wanna put antenna top of the roof(need to get ppl to climb up a 3-4 stories high building is extremely dangerous).

Any suggestion for wat hardware I need ? Going to have Wireless-N routers at both site but not sure for antennas. Thanks.

i guess u are trying to see if im still alive after like 5 years of posting ? ya, still alive and kicking

wifi signal isnt good at penetrating walls, and steel objects, so most likely no, for 150meters, u need line of sight, and directional antenna.

Ops, never notice on the posting date of this thread.
Look like putting up high antenna on roof top is a must if to do transmit of signal from house to house. I think local council will come and kacau if neighbour complaint.

Too bad, need pay 2 x Unifi subscription fee....

hi,
i lived in apartment. recently, my uncle who lives in another block, approx 300meter from my apartment, has agreed to share his 5mb Unifi connection with me. FYI, I already change the stock Dlink 615 to TPLink WR841ND and pair with another wireless router (in my house to act as repeater) and I successfully can connect to the internet.

Only problem is that my internet speed in my house drop drastically if compare the internet line at my uncle place. From Speedtest.net, i can get around 2mb of download/upload but at my uncle place can easily get around 4/5Mb of download/upload.

I believe the speed drop because using the repeater.

What do I need to invest in term of equiptment? I'm thinking of getting another antenna that have better dbi to replace the stock Tplink WR841ND which is only 5dbi. Do u have a suggestion how can i get same speed as my uncle internet line?

your original antenna is -5dbi, in lawyat you can get is -9dbi (pay so much for just -4dbi is not worth), or up to -24db yagi and cap ayam brand.

I tested with few repeater also, some really lag, surprisingly tenda one not bad but I hate repeater.

This post in here might helpful to u
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2794208/+5

Technically I will suggest buy directional antenna, or can cut an aluminium plate put it like a reflector, make you own directional antenna.
I had tested this and it increase about -3 to -10dbi (equivalent to RM30-RM100 antenna) which is quite a lot but most ppl will not notice this difference unless you check it with wifi analyzer (https://lh6.ggpht.com/JOFGKxHoqBM6Fu5QAupOxcEh6W3n-UC0x91QZa8k4DZT1zIgbXsbmKDjxrftHbBE4w=h900).

try check your ur dB with wifi analyzer, less than 60dbi is quite good, but those >70db to 90db is bad and slow you down seriously.
