Look, I might sound harsh and all, and I know there is already a topic that is pinned and stuff but I can't help but get annoyed when people get confused between break and brake. I don't mean to berate your lack of command of English and stuff but ever bother to check the meaning of what you type ?
And don't give me that thing about your mechanic uses that term so i should also use it. We are adaptive. I bet some of you are Chinese ed and are still typing here in english so it means that you can keep a separate set of vocabulary in case you are speaking to your mechanic.
Break means pecah or 'lan'
Brake are the things you use to stop the car.
Also its camber not chamber
Chamber is a type of room or small space. like a pressurized chamber where people do testing.
Camber is the inclination of your wheel.
Mods, if you think this should be closed then do so. But at least I feel contented I have let this out.

gostan actually has a meaning.
it is actually short for 'Go a-stern' which means go backwards as stern is the rear part of the ship.

lol...break/brake is not the only common mistakes around. Last I remember...a guy was posting 'between' while what he really meant was 'before' Grammar correction shouldn't be limited to vehicle terms because you need to explain the problem or issue in proper for other members here to help you...

Guys, if you refer to a pinned topic on the main FnF thread, we've already brought up the issue of using proper English in the forum mainly because we are typing in English.
As for Tire and Tyre, they are the same but one's in American English and the other in British. The same cannot be said for Break and Brake. However, Malaysian English originates from the British English, therefore we should be using tyre instead of tire.

QUOTE(imperialrealcs @ Feb 21 2008, 09:58 PM) from dictionary tire: a ring or band of rubber, either solid or hollow and inflated, or of metal, placed over the rim of a wheel to provide traction, resistance to wear, or other desirable properties. tyre: hoop that covers a wheel; "automobile tires are usually made of rubber and filled with compressed air so when it is filled with compressed air, it is called tyre, if it wasn't, it is called tire? No.. one is an american spelling and the other is british. no need to add more words cos my point is quite simple.
If dunno spelling, try to check cos some of us here are diy mechs and are educated in english and have been so all our lives. That includes our car education.
take the Haynes series manuals for example. I have learned how to strip down, clean and rebuild engines, drive trains and almost anything in a car. The problem is, when people start asking me about how to adjust tepek, i go huh ? and the thing is if i correct them, they say its irrelevant.
Ever thought that if you googled the correct term, you would get tonnes of information ? Especially credible ones.
Take it as a chance for you to improve yourself and help us help you.
p.s. : cool........at this point, post number 666

TS, despite the good intention, it is actually berating. Yeah, of coz we wish everyone would have great comand of grammar/spelling/etc. But the fact is, not everyone does. That's like asking someone who has poor command to check many of the words before typing. And if they can't do that, don't post. Come on, be realistic. There are thousands of members, surely you can't expect everyone to grasp English as well as you. It don't matter if it's a car thread of other threads for that matter.
So long as I understand what he/she meant, that is enough. If really there is a need for this thread, please post it up in RWI instead and maybe create a "Low English Standards" as a topic as this is beyond The F&F as well.

But it could have been properly explained instead of : QUOTE(sakaic @ Feb 21 2008, 12:23 PM) ....... but ever bother to check the meaning of what you type ? TS intention is good and he gave some fine examples and terminology of what is the common mistakes here. But I feel the above sentence was unnecessary, that's all.

i'm not particular about the standard of the grammar. Its the terms. Poor grammar we can still get the point.
Terms......we can be guessing for 20 posts and in the end we realized nothing we typed mattered.
matthew, I'm not asking for perfect english. I'm just asking for a constant learning of terms. If you come to us with chamber and we say its camber then from that point on use camber. makes our lives easier. right ? Don't argue using the mechanic thingy.

the pinned thread is quite useless as it does not consist of the wrong terms with the corrections..i suggest we start a new thread, pin it and post the wrong terms with corrections, without flamming,spamming..that way we can redirect new users to look up the terms easily.. example: brake, apply brake != break, berak disc warp != disc wrap TT= teh tarik != tarik tali so on..lets try to help people rather than criticise and put them down.Asking them not to post because their english is below par is unacceptable. My command of english is pretty good but sometimes i may not know the correct spelling either. Those who do know the right terms can help those who dont.. Added on March 25, 2008, 11:30 pm!= btw this means in-equality,not equals to or was it =! ?? i cant remember This post has been edited by ryan_hustler: Mar 25 2008, 11:30 PM
