Why do you want your amp to upscale when your dvd player can already do that? Is is better?

because then you only have one cable (HDMI) to the tv, instead of 1 HDMI+3 component+2audio cables.

and also no need to switch tv inputs between HDMI and Component everytime u change source (DVD/Astro/etc.) as upscaling will result in all the analog inputs rerouted to HDMI.

only for convenience?

thats what i can see only

I also don't know.
Currently my upscaling DVD player runs hdmi into my avr. I did not touch any setting at all, not sure which one is doing the job now.

dvd will upscale first, then feed to receiver. receiver sees this as 1080p already, and pass on to HDMI port.

depends also on setting on DVD, if set as default, will auto upscale to extent as "informed" by tv via the receiver.

dont know which chip is better, try n see only.

no double upscale, only pass through if already at 1080p.

for others, upscale for convenience only, for 1 hdmi cable to tv, no need for other cabling.

No benefit as "rubbish in-rubbish out". any defect in poor video will also be magnified.

If my DVD player doesn't do upscaling, the amp will do it right? Same as other sources? Astro? VHS?

then u must choose the amp correctly, dont get blurred by the shop.

amps less than RM3k will generally not have this feature.

cheaper to get upscaling dvd player as upscaling the rest (ASTRO,etc.) is a waste of money.
