Hi guys,

I want to pick up the guitar in 3-6months. I understand that you can do it within that time frame from my guitarist friends but i was wondering on the best way to do it. Best meaning efficient and not fastest.

I have some old scores of self-help guitar sheets but i was wondering if anyone here did the same and could give me some tips, a guide, or a website link.

I would also like to buy a cheap guitar below 100Rm to practice on. So it would be great if someone here knows where to get a good beginner guitar cheap and what to look for when buying a 2nd hand guitar. Thanks.

I got a friend bought a 50rm 2nd hand guitar sometime ago wor and in quite good condition.

That's why i thought 2nd hand can get. If 1st hand 100+ i know some friends who open a music shop can get discount. But i want start with low budget 1st very tight this few months.

You can get acoustic with plugin or without
If you want to 'harden' you hands or fingers.. i personally think kapok is a good way to start.. start off hard.. then later when u change to a good guitar.. you'd be like.. whoaaa.. this is so easy.. =p

The first thing to do is to get your self comfortable with basic strumming, neck gripping, holding pick proper way. I think you can do this within a week. If you are already comfortable with the guitar, you can become one with it (not meaning to ahem it), and you can learn chords easily after that.

Learn simple straight forward songs like Nirvana or Green Day (which most people play for a starter). Then you can go with simple string picking songs like intros from Metallica or something.

You can find very cheap kapok less than RM100... who cares if it's cheapo.

Ya but where to find? You can't find those in music shops.

Do you know any pop song guides for beginners. Pop as in popular, it can be rock or any other genre.

A Kapok is a machine for you to strengthen your fingers. It's not a guitar.XD
Well actually,I started with a Kapok, and it has definitely strengthen my fingers. But if you have the budget, invest on a Yamaha.

What music are you interested on?

Actually all kinds except opera lol. If i could play greenday, hoobastank, switchfoot, etc that would be cool too.

You're right mate, it boils down to the mind: what do u intend to get out of this ability of playing guitar? (Mcm superhero pulak tongue.gif )

Start with something affordable but decent. Its amazing what can be had for 150 bucks these days if u dig and bargain hard enough. Strangely enough, some affordable guitars can actually play and sound really really well - I have a kurap acoustic J.d. that beats the socks off of pricey Washburn/Yamaha/Ovation/Takamine anytime (but maybe im being biased here hehehe).

Believe me, as u grow musically, motivation goes down the drain when u pick up a kapok. And motivation is a very important thing when ur starting out. from past experience I've observed that the 1st 2 months will make or break a budding guitarist. Make it sumthing affordable that feels well - if u cant figure it on ur own get a 2nd opinion. Bring a friend to the shop - he can help with the haggling anyway. keep it within reach so u dont have to go through the trouble of opening the gig bag or going downstairs just to play it. Hang out with friends who play, listen to them talk shop, pick up a thing or two, or at least get jealous of their abilities. Emotion is a wonderful motivator, it worked for me at least. Youtube is a great resource but nothing beats having a live human being telling and showing stuff to u.

I've a few friends who play the guitar but they are awfully busy. I suppose i can gain a few tips but i want to reach the beginner stage first and not waste my time and other people's time. That's why i need to get a guitar.

I will try to search on google for some popular songs for beginners once i'm able to source for a kapok guitar.

I've got this friend who plays so well! If i can play 1/3 of what he can play i'd be extremely happy lol.

Thing is i one to get started first so i suppose i'll need to do 2 things,

a) Buy a kapok guitar (Less than 100rm)
b) Find a good site to practice songs while i'm hardening my fingers.

I've played bass before just simple songs and a few chords. I can't even play bass for prolonged periods, i'm such a wuss sigh. =/

Btw, i'm looking at starting on an acoustic guitar.
