Does anyone know what is the meaning of getting pass degree? Is it the degree just without honours? What is the benefit of degree with honours and without honours? Can get job with this pass degree? Hope anyone can answer my doubt. Thank You.

er... i oni knw tat degree with honours is recognized by most countries in the world compared to degree without honours..

degree with honours is the ones that need high high score lo. the one without honours is the ones that just pass the degree for most of the units lo.

what are u referring to when u say "pass degree"? back in my days, there were alot of confusion about pass degree. generally there are two meanings:

i. ordinary degree or degrees without honours.
ii. a degree awarded with third class.

if u're referring to a third class degree, yes, u'll have alot of problem applying for a job. this is plainly bcoz there are too many people with 2nd class (both upper and lower).

but if u're referring to ordinary degrees, it means the degree has slightly lower specialization than an honours degree. it doesnt really translate into less possibility of getting a job though.

then there's the australian system of honours degree, which further confuses people. in australian system, everybody takes ordinary degree. towards the end of their studies, if u have strong academic performance, they'll allow u to continue for another semester (6 months) to acquire an honours degree. now this honours degree is not something everyone could obtain. u need to be really good.

for the rest of the world, u can apply straight for an honours degree from 1st year. once in, u just need to maintain a 2.00cgpa and above. anything less (3rd class) will get u a pass degree.

A bit of correction here. This is applicable only for the 3 year courses, of which at the end you'll get the chance to continue towards honors, which is purely research based, and its for 1 year, not just 1 semester.

4 year degrees will have the option of honors depending on your results.

Dun bother much of what results u gain......try ur best in your academic....alwis remember academic is alwis differ much in career world.....u get good or bad results also will get job....but some good results ending up jobless compare to some lower grade student....cos these student taught there are too goog & demanding....

aus need 3 years to get degree (except u r outstanding student and get more than 3.8)
whereas
uk 3 years can get degree with honours

this is because there syllabus are different
aus 14 weeks + 14 weeks X 3 years (degree)
uk 14 weeks + 7 weeks + 14 weeks X 3 years (honours degree)

Correction.

For most courses you are only eligible for Honours if you get Distinction (> 70) average and above.

If academic differ much in career world, why still got many ppl study to get degree cert? Anyhow, still got big company like IBM still looking whether u get good result or not and which classification u get in ur degree. And i found that IBM need graudates which in first class degree then only can hire, coz last 2 yrs the IBM came to my college and giv a talk about employment in their company.

yes. i think this is the best answer. but anyway u see it, u need to work hard for any of the honours.

now u're talking about job opportunities at MNC/top corporations. it's a whole different ballgame.

MNCs such as IBM have vast resources, and the could afford to pay top dollars for top personnels. on top of that, being a MNC, they've got continuous flow of graduates applying for jobs with them. they can afford to select the creme de la creme.

lol...degree with honors mean you have to do dissertation...degree (without honors) means the otherwise....nothing to do with your grade distinction >70? lol)

The >70 rule applies if you're studying under the Australian system for 3 year courses. You need to do a one year dissertation but usually* you have to get >70 average to qualify for entry into the Honours year. How do I know? Been thru it.

My course is actually 3+0 UK programme from Coventry University and study in Malaysia. As far as i know, my course doesn't need students to do dissertation or thesis before we graduates. So, my course actually need students to work hard in final year project then only can get degree with honours or else pass degree.

Well, that's the main difference between the UK and the Australian degrees, where for the Australian degrees, there's no way for you to obtain honors within just 3 years, and for 3 year degrees, honors is only obtainable via dissertation.

I think you misunderstanding... you should need to do your dissertation, the final year project you are going to do to, you need to write up a documentation. This documentation is called dissertation.
And degree with honour is should be from 1st class to 3rd class. when your marks is around 40-49(for most of uni's standard), that mean a pass degree.

Means hav to write a very good dissertation in order to get degree with honours?
