Hello there. HKUST is currently offering 3-Year Programs but it is in the transition to introducing 4-Year Programs in another 2-3 years time. As far as it goes, All programs offered by HKUST is recognized internationally (though I'm not sure about Malaysia itself).

MUET and/or SPM 1119 English are both accepted in HKUST.

Any chance of a fluent English speaker, ok-ok Mandarin speaker and sucky canto speaker surviving in HK? I understand canto, but can never learn to speak it (nobody to practice with in my household).

I'm a perfect example of fluent English, OK Mandarin, and 0% Canto. It's tough, but it's not impossible.

Though, I would seriously advice you to pick the dialect up. Life is so much easier after that. blush.gif

I see. How about HKU? HKU vs HKUST, which is better for engineering? HKU 3 years also? I plan to do 3years BEng and 1 year MSc somewhere else. But i'm still a little doubtful about the 3yr course offered as most renowned universities and even Malaysia offer 4yrs. Will I lose out in the competition with other 4yrs graduate?
While I am not an engineering student, I will try to answer this question.

The concern over 3 or 4 years should no longer be a concern for HKUST. All intake from 2010/2011 Session (e.g. Intake for September 2010) onwards will undergo the 4-Year program. Only the last intake (September 2009 for academic year of 2009/2010) will be strictly under the 3-Year program, which will be hybridised slightly during graduation, which shouldn't be a concern for new incoming students.

HKU or HKUST for engineering is a pretty tough question to answer without leaking "evil secrets" cool2.gif , but to be honest, either one is just as good, comparing it simply. I may be wrong, so don't hit me if I am. tongue.gif

I take it that you are doing your A-Levels in Malaysia?

The simplest rule is if you do fairly well, and your results are adequate (or over-qualified) for a particular course, applying as an international student should be fairly -easy- (But I can't guarantee that, though Non-JUPAS entrance system is relatively easier, depending on which course you are looking at).

My 2 cents worth.

aderybt,

1. Yes, it is.
2. If my memory serves correctly, you only get "streamed" into accounting after your 1st year of "general BBA". I'm not sure whether there has been a change in policy, but I can ask around for you.
3. Possible, but it's way harder nowadays. If you attempt for Swire's, it should be part of the "whole deal", iinm.

Finally,i saw a post related to Hk Study~
I have completed Foundation of Design (Swinburne University)
So,i have try to pursue degree architecture course in hku.
Last year i have tried to apply but got rejected (maybe i apply at august).
Now i having problem about spm result slip,do i need to translate to English? Can i tranlate by myself?
*
When I applied, I didn't have to translate it from BM to English. I'm not sure whether there is such a requirement now.

If it is necessary, you can translate the result slip yourself, but you ought to get the translated copy certified by your secondary school, preferably.

HKUST is notable for a high male:female student ratio. Other than that, it's hard for me to comment accordingly. sad.gif

Is a presentable personal statement important in the HKUST's application?
Are recommendation letters required?

Thanks.

Follow the application instructions is the key.

Interesting topic =) As I am interested to study in HK too.
Anyone applied to go to study in HK this year?
Do anyone know any education loans that are allowed for the course that are not recognized by JPA?
*
You can try to apply for the HK Government Bursary, iinm. Most HK Universities do have education loans, so it shouldn't be too hard to get, as long as your grade is acceptable (i.e. not sterling).

I'm not too sure about other loans though. Forgive my ignorance.

It is cheaper if you translate them yourself and get the documents approved by your Principle of former secondary school, dean of college etc. That would save you loads of cash.

But of course, you can always do it the easier way. =)
