lol.. newbie detected... i'll englighten u a bit..iphone is designed to only allow at&t signal which is the official service provider. IF u want to be able to receive our malaysia service providers signal (maxis, celcom, digi), u will need to unlock ur iphone through the use of turboSIM or ppl that have the necessary skills to unlock it.. however.. unlocking the iphone is illegal as it is a breach of copyright.

yup, iPhone is marketed to be tied on contract with the supposed telco. For US users they need to tie up with contract with AT&T for a subscription period with a suitable package plan. For UK they need to tie up with O2 network for 18 months. So you don't really own that product. Instead you're purchasing a contract device to be used on the supposed telco until the subscription period is over. and yes, after that u really own that iPhone. ok if u still don't get the idea on how the activation works, watch the video of it here: http://www.apple.com/iphone/gettingstarted/activation.htmlok, that's all for the introduction side of the activation. now for the other side. you can actually activate the phone without a subscription. yup, this is illegal. Do it at your own risk. For bypassing the lock and knowing what's more to come, just browse through : http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/620927yeah, the infos are really juicy. but if u need things straight on step by step, u can refer to: http://iclarified.com/yeah it's great to be another iPhone user. iPhone rocks! Yet another typical case of not thinking/researching before spending money n something totally alien.... Just get aneip or someone to solve the whole problem for you for a fee, problem solved. Don't waste your time trying to figure it out yourself if you're not very technical-fluent, else this thread will hit another 5 pages on it's own....
