Hi, I'm new here in LYN. I need to get a laptop/notebook but I'm all confused with the brands the specifications. Did some research around but it got me even more confuse.

Budget: Would be around RM3600, best if below RM4000 (the balance will be throw in for an external hdd either 1TB or 500GB) Can't afford a MacBook Pro

Brand: Not that particular, perhaps if u stream down to my requirements. Initially I am very interested with the Dell XPS M1530 due to the pricing which suits my budget. But after strolling around the forum, saw some review saying that the graphic card is a time bomb or equivalent, therefore, it's out of my list already.

Size: Anything above 14"inch. (14"inch is still acceptable). Weight as long as not heavier than 3KG.

Build/Appearance: Standard. Black is the standard color I suppose.

Specifications: Must have a graphic card. Processor must be 2.0Ghz above, HDD at least 160GB above (is this a standard size that come together with new notebook?), Webcam, Good Screen for graphics and video, Acceptable Sound and etc specs that comes along with the notebook.

Requirements: For graphics design purposes, adobe series, video editing, gaming that can support DOTA (this is why I write off the XPS due to the graphic card issue), Listen music, Watch drama, MSN, foruming and etc...

Please advice. Many thanks in advance.

Cheers.

Mind elaborating on this? You mean there's a way (via software) to permanently fix the faulty hardware problem?
*

COMPAQ CQ40-126AU - CPU Amd Turion X2 RM-70 - Display Radeon HD3200 - CASH Rm 1, 799

COMPAQ CQ40-152TU - CPU Intel Core Duo T3400 - Display Intel X4500 - CASH Rm 1, 799

which one of this is better? is the radeon HD3200 better than intel x4500 or they're both the same?

is there any differences in terms of performance and heat between these two models?

Added on February 9, 2009, 9:43 pmim thinking installing Windows 7, OpenOffice, Adobe Photoshop CS2, Capture One 4, Firefox, Yahoo Messenger and for internet surfing, blogging and photo editing purposes.

-batt can last for at least 2-3 hours

been googling on Dell Insprion 1420.but some say got heat issues.

Brand
anything goes but no acer, no benQ, no Compaq.
currently looking at HP DV4 series, toshiba m300 series, or xps 13 series, sony vaio cs16
or asus f6??

Budget
preferably below RM4k. MAX RM4.5k

Specs
ermm... C2D T8xxx or T9xxx (any Centrino2 at this budget??)
not a hardcore gamer, but would hope that the specs could provide moderate gaming capabilities?? looking at 9300M
2gb ram seems like a norm nowadays. 3gb would be nice. 4gb would be a bonus.
hdd capacity isnt a priority. 160gb will be enuf. 250gb will be a bonus.

Size
max 14' or below 2.5kg
min 13'

well... the main dilemma i'm having here is probably the branding choices. and hopping to get the best value vs spec out of my budget.
since the specs i have in mind is in a small range. while still hoping to get a centrino 2.

Some of the models i'm looking at:

Not sure about other brands, but when it comes to Sony it's better to buy in the UK, thanks to the downward spiral of the pound sterling.
About 2 months back my friend bought a Sony VG.. VG something can't remember the exact model but I posted about this price difference in the Vaio thread. It's the one with 16.4 screen. Comes with blu-ray and Vista Ultimate. In Malaysia the same model (albeit with Vista Premium) was selling for RM8k+ but in the UK it's only RM4k+ after conversion.
*
wow...that is cheap...but sony is like ur paying quater of the price just for the "brand"...

Hi guys,

I m looking for a gaming laptop to play 3 games which is Red Alert 3, Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 smoothly. Below are my requirements and budget.

Budget          : Max RM 5k ++
GPU              : Nvidia 9600GT DDR3
Monitor        : 15.4 inch or above
RAM              : At least 3 GB
Processor      : Minimum Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor (2.0GHz)

Please help me evaluate based on price / performance ratio based on my budget. I dun care abt the looks and etc. So far I m keeping an eye on Dell Studio XPS 16 , HP HDX 16t and MSI GX620. Is the gc for Dell Studio XPS 16 comparable with 9600 GT? And please let me know whether I will waste my money by getting a laptop with 9600 GT just to play these 3 games...

Thx..Any feedback will be appreciated......... thumbup.gif
*
xps studio gc slighty lousier than 9600gt..so i think u should go for MSI..

Then what abt HP HDX16t? How is it compare to Dell Studio XPS 16 and MSI GX620 in terms of performance? This MSI brand is kinda new to me. Can anyone enlighten me abt whether this product is reliable? Very seldom hear ppl own MSI laptops..

Thx...  notworthy.gif

reliability is the problem for MSI sweat.gif ...only if ur willing to take the risk..or not go for other brand...
