QUOTE(trencher10 @ Jun 7 2008, 01:54 AM)
In this age of increasing electric usage costs, a laptop is a much better alternative for some long-term & low-power needs (torrent downloading, etc). As I already have a desktop, a smaller laptop is my target. Smooth performance of web browsing (that means RAM), ample storage space and warranty service is the main criteria.

1. Brand. : Any brand that offers warranty

2. Budget. : Cheapest ( I use Dell's Vostro 1200 at a customised RM3150 as a benchmark, I'd like alternatives cheaper than Dell)

3. Specs. : Must have option for Windows XP Pro, largest possible storage space, 2 GB RAM

4. Size. : Must be size of 12.1" screen

Any ideas?

Added on June 7, 2008, 1:59 amWoops, forgot, DVD+-RW also a must.

Added on June 7, 2008, 3:05 amHmm, if anyone can convince me that Windows Vista Basic is suitable in terms of program compatibility, I would consider using the lower-priced OS.

Acer 2920.. full your need... core 2 duo.. 2G ram only less than RM2.5k and 12" thumbup.gif
this is fast selling model thumbup.gif

Budget - Around 5k

Usage - A abit gaming, massive downloading, typing and programs.

Need something that's able to be switched on for long hours and durable.

Brand - Nothing specific

Suggestions please, thank you ^^

go for brand with good warranty insurance such as acer upgrade to 3 years warranty and of course use Intel don't use AMD for long and durable my personal suggestion. icon_rolleyes.gif

Asus is suitable for gaming purpose and value for money too!. with RM3k or RM4k range laptop sure u can get gaming and nice slick design laptop..

acer for those have low range budget but want have stable and good performance..

toshiba and fujitsu are very good brand more likely suitable for business and online purpose.. but have one or 2 gaming laptop..

The 3d graphics card supplied in the asus F5VL is a ATI Radeon X2300 and thats a gaming card? Yeah getting last years normal graphics card is a good investment, no wonder its so cheap.

if want macbook, go for the specs with super drive. I dont buy macbook simply because the aftersales here are not good like in US. here is resellers, not official apple stores.

so I opt for dell xps. configure it on the website and you will get better than macbook

QUOTE(akuinsan @ Jul 5 2008, 12:29 PM)
need laptop for my cousin, just enter some college, recomendation for budget in range rm1800~2000

well, when i get price list from lowyat.net (compuzone/cycom & other)
i saw that many brand of laptop offer laptop in my budget range.

but i still dunno what's brand is good to choice.
in term of hardware spec between brand is "quite same". example, for rm2000, between acer & compaq, hardware spec "quite same", just little additional....

so, i think it's better to choose brand that it's customer service very very good  thumbup.gif
if somthing happen, no need worried about to claim warranty, or to get support from them.

maybe next week i'll go to lowyat plaza.

so, i very appreciate for all of your advise here  rclxms.gif

why not go for asus laptop? asus got 2 years warranty.. or toshiba have long warranty period for peace of mine..
this is my suggestion
ASUS X80LE173DX - RMRM2099
14.1" WXGA, Dual Core T2370, 1.7G, 1GB, 160GB SATA, DVD-S-Multi, 802.11BG, Bluetooth® 2.0+EDR, 0.3M Camera

or acer 4920 only rm2199 u already got core 2 duo tongue.gif
acer 4715z RM1899
or thosiba pslbcl-00j003 RM1899 only... thumbup.gif

compaq have problem with driver and motherboard.. so do acer have problem here and there... but for now im using acer laptop and all fine thumbup.gif
