I'd go for a new 2nd hand guitar.

Or upgrade your amp.I read from ultimate-guitar,that 80% of tone comes from the amp. However in lyn,it's different.I dunno lah, wait for some of the pros here to explain. If you plan to change pups, what pups are you gonna get?

I agree that your first guitar can be very sentimental. Heck, I still keep my first crapstrat, but it's going for a MAJOR overhaul soon...... I've been saying that for over a year and still haven't done anything though......

But when I had my cash saved up, I went for a new guitar. I figure, they both have their own individual sound, and if I have two, I can alternate between them..... I still do play the crapstrat (but the tuners makes me FURIOUS!) when I want that Single Coil pickup tone, and then play my Les Pauls for the heavier stuff....... BTW, I still play ALL my guitars. My LP-100 is now setup for downtuning and alot of low-end riffing stuff, while my ZW Les Paul is the more general Go-To guitar which handles most of the songs I play and the RR3 is for the shredding or soloing stuff......
The only thing I lack is a general guitar that can also shred, which is where my new E-Gen (Coming to my studio when it's released) will fit in.

My very long winded answer is that I think you should get a new guitar. Don't worry..... GAS will always be there.

drew1.0beta : Go to Seymour Duncan's website and Dimarzio's website . Search on google .. You can listen to the Audio Samples of the pickups there, and compare the specs..

Try them all out and read the specs until you're satisfied.. Then you can try buying that pup for your guitar.

Btw, what wood is your guitar and which pickup on your guitar u're planning to change? Single coil ? Humbucker? Bridge / neck ?

I suggest you to save your money for a new amp or guitar... most of the tone comes from the player's fingers.. good fingers can make shit guitars sound good..

btw blacktrix i love your avatar =)

Wow you sure do play alot of different genres at once... Kehkehkeh.. If this is so, maybe Seymour Duncan should be more.. suitable? Since you want versatality.. Maybe the Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB ..

But what jacksonyong said is true.. Since IF your guitar is basswood.. I doubt u'll be happy with the tone in the long run, especially looking at the genres that you mentioned you play.. Most would sound better and more "certain" with a Mahogany bodied guitar.. But in the end, it really depends what kinda sound you want. Even that guy from .. Er, that punk band, using Ibanez guitar.. i forgot the name of that band.. Uses a Basswood guitar.. His signature guitar is on the Ibanez website. Anywayyy..

Good luck smile.gif take ur time, do more research before you make up your mind to buy something..

changing pickups wouldnt make a big difference really, unless its a decent guitar to start with. the tone might be better, but the feel is still the same. ive never heard the brand of ur guitar so i cant tell. if ur not happy with the current guitar, i suggest just get a new one. having 2 guitars r quite common.

my first guitar my ibanez rx, got it from my buddy in 2003...first i tough its not for the music that i play, and the strat look, mostly i play metal stuff...
so when i tried my fwens esp kh2 it was like "wtf is this black pickup with emg on it, so much power" since then i was dreaming of putting and emg on the ibanez..

on january i bought jackson and put an emg81 on the briged and i felt good!!! shocking.gif shocking.gif
but when u turn it to clean sound it does not match the passive on my ibanez..
now mostly i play all the heavy stuff with the jackson and the clean and melodic stuff on my ibanez...

i would never sell the ibanez, now i love it more the ever coz of the sound..
if i were you, i would do some research and find my self a new guitar...
go to a guitar shop and try as many as u want...
try it, love it,buy it... thumbup.gif

get yourself a guitar !

1- your first guitar is crap ('xcuse my french !)
2- you can't try pickups on your own guitar before you buy them, so you don't know how it's gonna sound
3- having two guitars is the minimum !! first one is your favorite, the second one is used for experiment

But spending 500RM on a second guitar is a bad move.. wait till you get a bit more than this. I would say 1k or 1.5k RM... (sorry, i lost touch with guitar prices, but in this range you'll really feel the improvement, compared to the ashton)
