Hi , There's a few questions i would like to ask about architecture:
1)What is the average salary(starting pay) of an architect?
2)Are architects in demand in malaysia right now ?
3)Am i guarenteed a job after i've graduated from uni/after part 2.
4)Is the architecture course as hard as we think ?
5)Do we need to be tremendously good in drawing if we want to take up
architecture?

P/s: I'm 19 this year and i'm wondering if architecture would be the right route for my future. sweat.gif

Hey , i need an advice.I want to take up architecture so badly but my mum insists that i should take up aviation(pilot) but it seems the number of students taking up aviation has been increasing vastly from year to year.I know a pilot has a much more higher salary compared to an architect but the chances of getting to work for local airlines like MAS or AA are very slim.

I'm not sure which is the right choice for me but can someone at least tell me that being an architect is a better path for my future smile.gif

QUOTE(azarimy @ Apr 17 2008, 07:34 PM)
that's quite a different jump of field, i must say. i dont know any advice that i could give other than those i've already given throughout this thread. i especially dont know how to convince anyone against doing aviation. so u wanna take architecture, but tell me, why dont u wanna be a pilot?

First of , i don't think malaysia will be demanding for pilots for the year to come because there are MANY students who have taken up aviation which means being assured of a job as a pilot would not be easy for me.MAS currently has 500 candidates waiting to fly a plane and don't put too much hope on getting a place with an airline because only 12 graduates gets picked out of hundreds.(correct me if i'm wrong)
Other than that , let's say i've just graduated from flying school and have sent my application letter to an airline , i will have to wait for weeks or worse months for them to return my letter.Even if they do reply i will need to go for an interview and if i fail , there goes another waiting process.Lots of my friends pulled out from becoming a pilot because of this , as well as me.

After much thinking , i then thought of pursuing my childhood ambition on becoming an architect.Well , i will be able to experience college life if i were to taking up this course , otherwise i'll be dressed up in uniform, studying in a school far away from home and full of male students LOL.

Is studying architecture really that EXTREMELY tough which tends to make you give up easily ? I was being optimistic about this course till when everyone else keeps telling me its very stressful , tight schedule , hardly any sleeping hours , loads of assignments...well not to say im exaggerating or anything but i'm just not prepared to face ''hell'' just yet sad.gif

arghh i can't even sketch properly..toning , contrast , detail. All these are too difficult for me to handle.im still new to the drawing scene T.T

Any ideas on how i should brush up my sketching skills ? it's my 1st week in college and i've already been given an assignment regarding sketching.2 hours into sketching and not even half of my work done.

Looking at Bishop's advocate/recommendation has made me worry about my future in pursuing architecture.

''My recommendation to you - Quit now if you are not sure before it is too late....'' that's a really daunting.

What are the other alternative path after achieving my diploma in AT other than continuing architecture ? I've just completed my 1st sem and I've got satisfactory results from exams and assignments. Having heard that it gets tougher and tougher sem by sem and students quitting the course because of the stress and tension faced. So here comes my decision

I have 2 choices:
1)either switch my archi programme to interior design at taylors.
2)quit the course at taylors and pursue other programmes.(Having wasted money and 1 year since i'm a july intake student)

I'm having the most difficult moment in my life right now.I am extremely upset about the students of my intake in the architecture programme at taylors. 90% of the chinese students speak mandarin and their verbal skills in English is terrible. Nevertheless, they are anti-social towards people with an english speaking background, like me, mind you that i only speak english because my parents fed me with that language since birth.

All of my group members since semester 1 are chinese educated lads and it so difficult to communicate with them. Because of the linguistic differences between me and my classmates, now i'm left group-less for my on-coming assignment. I was so disappointed and depressed that I keep thinking of postponing my semester 2 (if that's legal) so i can get to join up with the january 09 intake students, where most of them are English educated students. I just want to do what's right for me if I dun feel happy about my class where i will be stuck with it for the next 2 years.

I feel like an alien to the chinese students in my class. My friends are limited and it's very hard to get team members for group assignments. I thought architecture needed a good demand in English? Maybe it's just my intake that has the majority students who only speak mandarin ?

Please advice. sad.gif
