I'm currently taking diploma in architecture at Alfa college.
1. I heard that there's a course or subject called architectural engineering for degree. What's the difference between that course/subject with the normal ones? Is it more to engineering part instead of design?
2. And can i continue my studies at any local U for my degree? Is it hard to get?
3. Lastly, what happen if my CGPA are low.Let say 2.0 only. But my portfolio is very good.Which one will they see?

QUOTE(azarimy @ Jun 20 2008, 05:15 PM) 1. architectural engineering is a degree course that is a combination of both architecture and civil engineering. it is not available in malaysia at the moment. the architectural engineering degree qualifies u as both an architect and civil engineer at the same time. so imagine the architecture subjects u have now, and add what ur civil engineering friends are learning, and u'll get a basic idea of what architectural engineering is all about. 2. yes, u can. yes, it is hard especially with a diploma bcoz u'll be competing with other diploma holders from other IPTSs and IPTAs including all polytechnic diploma schools. 3. with a CGPA of 2.00, i dont think they'd even look at ur portfolio. average diploma holders applying to IPTAs hold atleast a 3.30. anything less than that, u need about 2 years working experience. it doesnt mean u cant apply with a 2.00. there are too many diploma holders around right now waiting for a chance to further studies at a university, and most of them are already good achievers with exceptional portfolios. so u need to compete against them. Oh man, u scared me already Haha.Anyway, what's the advantages and disadvantages of taking architectural engineering instead of the normal architecture course besides job opportunities?

Anyone went to DatumKL09? i thought it was great this year. They were talking about 'Basic Design: The New Intelligence'
Junya Ishigami's work really inspired me a lot. The time, effort and pain to produce his architecture is breathtaking.

One question, i tried applying for IPTA thru UPU's website just now, but i can't seem to find Sarjana Muda Senibina / B.Sc of Architecture for UTM, UIAM, and UKM. They are not in the list. Could only find for UM and UiTM.
I'm applying under Diploma/Setaraf. Are they not offering for diploma grads or did i missed something?

QUOTE(arkitek @ Jan 20 2011, 02:10 PM) problem solved.. i saw at the pictures, it shows that u want to choose for 3rd choice right?? u can only choose architecture course in 1st and 2nd choice since it has a interview.. 1st and 2nd choice only.. So it seems that i can only choose 2 institutions right? as all the architecture course needs interview. Well that sucks, i heard Malaysia need architects.. and yet they are limiting people to even try.. Anyhow, best of luck to everyone. Never gives up, that's all i can say.

QUOTE(azarimy @ Jan 21 2011, 09:02 AM) what, u dont like interviews? well, dont do architecture at all then. coz u will be debating ur work in crits like everyday of the semester. it's like interviews, but 10 times harder . No, u got me wrong. I want to be interviewed from all the schools if possible, but they only allow to choose 2 institutions. This post has been edited by croviax: Jan 21 2011, 10:48 AM

QUOTE(azarimy @ Jan 21 2011, 11:14 AM) Yes i did, they say those with interview can only be chosen under Option 1 and Option 2. Since all Degree programs for architecture requires interview, only 2 can be selected.

QUOTE(Dae Woong @ Jan 21 2011, 10:18 PM) May i know what are the requirements to get into USM Architecture?(e.g. cgpa, muet results, certain subject need higher GPA) I'm a science student,am i given priority rather than the arts students? I dont do seni during my SPM & STPM,will it affect from choosing me in architecture? During the interview what must i prepare? arkitek said interview is easy, how true is this?may be the gurl's CGPA is high or maybe she do well on drawing. Everything is listed in their website. You might want to wear your reading glasses as they love to write as if it's a storybook
