BTW, in my imagination, the new Taylor's Lakeside Campus really looks like a Futuristic State of the Art Greenhouse. [Heck, it should be one, I can imagine how nice it would be to study Architecture in a Flagship State of the Art Greenhouse!][/color]

Anyway, I would be studying in that massive Greenhouse in 2010! (Migrating from a smaller Greenhouse to an even larger Greenhouse!)

Lol. Is TCPJ a small greenhouse? There are air-con exhausts in the corridors also, know. Every morning we get a fresh blast of hot air as we walk to class. But they integrated these things into the face of the buildings also, seems quite a good idea la. Only weird thing is they are also in the corridors.

Here come another new assignment for me which is a research...i was asked to do the research about Mies Van Der Rohe the architect. Can the "seniors" here give me some list of books which related to this person? just need some help if anyone had ever read about him in any book, and tell me the book name or anything related to him...

thanks in advance...

For Design Theory, Mies's theory branches out into two ; Space and Tectonics.

For space, you can take a look at the Farnsworth House, also see his links to Suprematism.
For tectonics, you can take a look at the Seagram Building, also find his writings on honesty/purity to structure, etc.

Ask Ms.V la Joe.

Mdf blocks are unholy pain, and the Taman Mayang place is even unholier. Persistent delays and refusal to take responsibility for orders.

Books in Taylor's go out fast, try to find those who have the book, flip through and photocopy.

Scan the diagrams and start work on em. For the A3 panel assignment, the diagrams are your priority.

Thats why I said focus on the diagrams. My comments from Ms.V were that I could have done the diagrams better.

im in taylors 3rd sem now but im a chinese ed.however i have no problem speaking in english just when i m speaking with a fren who could have speak in chinese then for sure i would cause it is kinda weird when 2 ppl who knows chinese chat in english....
i admit some of the "mandarin group" are not really good with their english, but not their concept or even skill in producing good work. instead of judge this matter from your point of view, why don't you view it another angle? they cant speak proper english and they feels so embarass when talking to such ppl like u who can speak well? Try to show ur interest of making friend with them with speaking some chinese or cantonese even though ur not really good, coz this is same to them. I have some of the chinese speaking group has really good concept n idea but always sucks big time in presentation and some english speaking fren whose idea is "so so" but they can do well in presentation. I dare to say that in architecture this course concept and presentation is equally important,so y don't u ppl group up and exchange idea n skill?

However,i can tell you that "us" as a chinese speaking group is kinda "anti" those banana tongue.gif(hope u dun mind),try to learn some chinese even it is basic. Don't limit yourself but try to accept others' culture, language or wadever,it brings no harm to u! To become a good designer has an open mind.

P.s - do u know amanda? the girl with a pierce below her lips... tongue.gif

Yer, Joe "anti" me. And chasin chicks adi.

To the July intake chap at Taylor's, it's possible to learn Chinese and be good friends with your batch and all, but realistically speaking, its very likely your language barrier is only compounding your problem instead of being the cause of it all.

Sketch is different from plans, although plans can be sketched first. Draw from left to right or with another piece of paper under your hand. That helps with the messy. Sharpen the pencil often. stick coins under the T-square/Set-square. CAD drawings come later to present finalized/almost-finalized stuff.

Anybody has any suggestions on modeling board? Is there an equivalent to museum board here. I'm having problems with folding/twisting, and the only alternative I have left is to increase the scale, which makes for unwieldy large models.

Anybody know an available 3d-printing place for models and the details?
