Yeah, I know... but for training I received $5 an hour which is equivalent to the minimum wage for kids that first start working at age: 14 yrs + 9 months.  Of course, not many employers choose to pay those kids at minimum wage (ps: I'm talking about the retail/fast food sector)
*
I didn't know that they could pay you a different wage rate for training though, how long was your training?
Heh guess maccas is better in the sense that they paid me my full hourly rate during training.

They really dont have a Low Yat here?

Damn,i was thinking of getting a desktop here.I really hate to do CAD without a numpad but getting a desktop from Dell or Acer is no no for me.

I still prefer for a custom build desktop with the parts that i want to use,especially the graphics card.Dell,Acer and others often give crappy graphics card.
*
The closest you can get is Capitol Square in the city. it's along George St near Market City if you haven't been there before. Although it's no where near Low Yat, but there's still a couple of shops (around 10 I reckon) there selling computer parts ala Low Yat. There might be some other places that I'm not aware of, you gotta ask chris on that.

It is pretty obvious you did not even make the effort to check out the first page then, the list of people and their whereabouts is in the third post.

I previously got my offer letter for a major that I don't want to study. So I asked them to change my major. But then changing my major means they have to reassess my documents. So there goes ...
And the deadline for me to secure a place at UNSW is 21st May.
doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif

EDIT: Thanks to Chris, I phoned the school and they say it's changeable over there at UNSW.
So it's all great now, I have to finish my online application and accept the offer. brows.gif

Anyways 1 question here. Second session starts at 21th of July. Orientation (I want to go) is a week earlier.
When should I arrive at Australia? Have to purchase the OSHC so I have to plan further ahead.
NOTE : I have a place to stay already. I plan to go at 10th of July, I wonder if that's fine.
*
Correction: Week zero (Orientation Week) starts on the 21st of July, your lectures and tutorials will start a week after (28/7).
Generally speaking, if you already have a place to stay, arriving 1 week before uni starts should be good enough. You should have enough time to settle down and explore a little bit to get yourself used to the environment within that week.

@SeeD

Yeah, you are not allowed to take GenEds from your own faculty. However having said that, sometimes you will not be able to take certain subjects from certain faculties either, for example, commerce students are not allowed to take certain GenEds from the law faculty. I am not sure about engineering students, it's best if you check the Handbook for more information.

The course that I'm supposed to take this Semester is FULL. What should I do ?
I know I'm so late to enroll because there's a lot of complication in my course plan doh.gif

The General Education needs 6 UOC right, can I do 3 UOC now and do 3 more in the upcoming semester ?
*
You should speak to your faculty on that matter.
For GenEds, yes you can do 3 UOC now and the remaining 3 later.

See you guys at Sydney. thumbup.gif

Oh yeah, my handphone died a few weeks ago. And I'm finding a replacement.
But my cousin at aussie said it's better if I can get a 2 years contract for a free phone.
What do you think?
*
Well it's good to sign up for the 24 months contract once you get here and get a free phone, but in order to sign up for that you'll need to provide bank statement and other relevant documents, which I reckon will take some time before you receive them. Hence, prior to signing up for one, you'll have to rely on a prepaid first, so I reckon it'd be a good idea if you have a temporary phone with you.

If you are not using a 3G phone, you better make sure the prepaid SIM card you gonna get is compatible, this happened to my friend earlier on who bought a 3 prepaid starter pack and the SIM card couldn't be used on his old non-3G phone.

One of the following:

* IELTS - 5.5+ (no band less than 5.0)
* TOEFL - Paper Based = 530+ (TWE 3.5+)
* TOEFL - Computer Based = 197+ (TWE 3.5+)
* REW - English for Academic Purposes Upper Intermediate

Academic

Completion of one of the following:

* Year 12/Foundation Studies program or equivalent.
* A relevant, recognised, post secondary diploma or certificate.
* Applicants with relevant work experience will also be considered.

does it mean i need to sit for English test? Coz i did Australian High School Certificate... and i also already got accepted by RMIT, but now i check the website, i saw the English requirement...
*
Just to add one bit on top of what zltan has just mentioned, as long as you have done ESL in HSC regardless of where you took it (NSW or here) and meet the minimum requirement for English (i.e. a minimum of B15 iirc for SAM, not sure about HSC though), you are most likely to be exempted from taking any of those tests.

Btw, just out of curiosity, I thought one wouldn't receive the full offer from uni if he/she still has any pending documents, academic wise (i.e. transcript, English proficiency test etc), no?

There's nothing wrong here, you are prolly unlucky that your area is out of coverage, at least I don't find that issue here nor do I have any problem in uni. But it shouldn't matter much as it automatically goes into roaming if you are out of coverage.

Well I have lots of jackets ... which I have no idea can cover me from the cold or not.

Can I ask how many layers of clothes you wear during winter?

Textbooks? How do I know which textbooks to bring ? @_@ ...
Well my aunt there already got printer. I'll be sharing with them once I reach there.
*
Nah, it doesn't go as low as 2C here in Sydney, unless you are talking about some outer western areas. The lowest it could get would probably be around 5-7, but that's only during late night, daytime expect it to be around 10C.

Jackets wise, it would really depend on how well you could tolerate cold. Usually a thicker jacket (but not those really thick ones, you don't need that) with a long sleeve shirt inside will be sufficient, but that's for me though. If you need warmer stuff just add in a thermal wear and it should be pretty much sufficient.

You can check your text list here, just search using your subject code. But I doubt the list would be out by 8th of July though.

This new 3G iPhone will be the first iPhone Apple Australia is bringing in officially. But to answer your question, yes it is indeed cheaper than the previous gen in the states.

Living in Australia Is really Expensive Before i decided to study in monash sunway i chose Australia in UNSw to study in sydney  but its so expensive in terms of tuition fees its 26K AUD per yr OMG and How much is the living cost in sydney per yr i think around 15 k AUD? right? Can international Students Earn 15k AUD per yr? Its not possible and they have to pay taxes as well right how much is the tax? Is it really True that Renting a Single room in Sydney is almost $200 / week or $250 wothout utils i really need some info on living costs and Anyone Studying in UNSW ? Can i do Credit from Monash malaysia to UNSw ?
*
Firstly, your post is really hard to read and seriously, this is really annoying..

15k AUD p.a (or rather 9 months since most of the students go back home for summer) is reasonable provided that you don't spend a lot on shopping etc.
And no, it IS possible to earn $15k per year from part time jobs, provided you know what kind of jobs to look for AND working a maximum of 20 hours every week on session. But on the tax part, yes you have to pay taxes like everyone else does.

I think matters on renting have been covered extensively previously. But anyway, it depends on the location and room condition. In suburbs around uni, $200/week is the average I reckon but I'm pretty sure there are a few going for around $170-180. Bills wouldn't be that high, i.e around $15 to $20 I reckon if you don't turn on the heater.

For credit transfer, it is best for you to contact the uni directly to find out what credits would they allow you to transfer from Monash.

I am really sorry abt my post if its hard for u guys to read

as u guys said students can earn 15k per yr or for 9 months but the point is how by doing which jobs can i earn 15 k AUD in 9 months? can u give some examples and working only 20 hrs a week mind u and also How much percentage of your income do u have to give as tax.
I heard its 33% is it true? if thats true then i have to give 5k aud as tax and  will have 10 k left provided if i earn 15 k per yr and then again i will be 5 k short so how are you guys managing this plz tell me are your parents financing your living costs as well?
How much % percentage Tax do u guys pay and do u get any tax refunds?
About the accomodation if i live further away from uni suburbs the cost will be low but the cost in transport will increase right?  so will it save any money suppose i live near uni give $200/week and if i live further renting 180/week but the cost of transport is $20 to $30/week then its a loss right

Are guys really serious about the Food?? I Mean $10/meaL Cmon??
we eat three meals a day so it will $30 /day and $900/month only on meals ? DamN or is it $10/day in three meals??
*
Jobs in those big supermarket chains such as coles and woolies pay approx $20/hr, and you are allowed to work full time during semester breaks. However, having that said, your primary reason here is to study, if you need to work really hard to cover your tuition fees and expenses, you should seriously reconsider your decision about coming over.

Someone has just mentioned the tax rate, for the first $6k you make will not be taxed. For more info, just look at the ATO website here.

Meals wise, I'd say $8 to $9 a meal on average should be decent enough, it'd be a lot cheaper if you cook yourself.

can anyone tell me the estimation of the money needed for getting a degree in australia(UNSW).total cost for 4 year in australia.thx for the help
*
Rough estimation would be AUD$40k p.a. (tuition fees + living expenses) with the normal average lifestyle, so 4 years would roughly cost around $160k AUD, using current exchange rate of approximately 1:3, it would translate to about half a million ringgit. However, remember that this is just the ROUGH ESTIMATION, so if you want a precise figure, better do the math yourself.

Since you guys are talking about driving licence, just one question: Is it possible for me to convert my full Malaysian driving licence to aussie licence by just taking the theory test(or whatever test is needed) etc without having to start from scratch, i.e going through the P level again? I'm talking about NSW licence in particular btw.

if you take dipl you're pretty much fixed to a certain course (unless you've already decided). Foundation is rather easy to get into uni here, depending on what course your talking bout.
*
I don't know about diploma, but for foundation, I reckon it'd be easier to get into the same university for undergraduate after you finish your foundation. However having that said, choosing a foundation more or less restricts you in the choice of university you can choose later on as not all universities will accept the same foundation certificate.

@Cheesenium:
If you are talking about the uni self-catered apartments, they aren't easy to get either. Since they are on a first come first serve basis, you gotta apply really early to stand a better chance in getting them, and I think this would definitely put a new student at a disadvantage compared to the current students.

i wanna cut ma hair as well!!! gosh!!! im a female by the way... last time my hair was cut by my housemate... just trim a bit la... but ok not bad... since just trimming... no need to cut much...
do u guys know where can i get a cheap haircut also in sydney...
for me.. i have already expected it wont be like super nice haircut... as its ok.. then im alright...

It was pretty warm early of the week though, just that it has been raining for the past few days, so it's a bit cold right now.

Depends on the location and how you define as cheap, but I do know there are a few salons in the city that are pretty reasonable in their prices. However they are mostly korean though, so communication might be a lil tough, and of course don't expect too much as well.
