Is ZiPhone the ultimate jailbreaking, unlocking, and activating solution? I'll be getting one soon enough and will be selling my faithful iPod touch and Sony Ericsson.

I can have a 1.1.3 OTB jailbroken, unlocked and activated using ZiPhone and use it right away with my Maxis SIM card, yeah?

What sort of complications i might run into?

Thanks all.

^U'll be getting "Call Failed" problems with Maxis sim card. Kinda annoying if u ask me. Good thing i don't make lots of phone calls.  biggrin.gif

But i thought maxis already rectified the problem? Or is it a problem with the ZiPhone jailbreaker? I thought we could use iWorld or something to add unsupported countries?

Yes, and technically... it should be activate, jailbreak and finally unlock...  tongue.gif

Ah so basically i could just use ZiPhone and after it done its work, i could pop in my Maxis card and start using?
Do i need to do any extra configuration for, say, SMS?

Hi All,

going to get my hand on 1.1.3otb soon, so need to do some research....

a bit confused here on ziphone unlock...

1. jailbreak is to install and use 3rd party app
2. unlock is to use maxis, digi, celcom line
3. but what does activate do? do i have to do that?

I read a round, can someone confirm if i activate, jaibreak and unlock
1.1.3 otb usig ziphone, then insert sim card, everything will work, no need to
downgrade, etc....and bb will be 4_03_13G on fw 1.1.3?

there is just to much conflicting tutorails around , it confusing me....help appreciated.

Rgds,

And what difference btwn bootloader 4.6 and 3.9 and is upgrade/downgrade really necessary?

currently on bootloader 3.9 u can unlock the latest baseband 4.03 while on bootloader 4.6 u can only unlock the earlier version 4.02. the baseband 4.03 is crucial to make the google map's location functional as example. maybe baseband 4.03 does come with some other features but i dunno much.

about downgrading the 4.6 to 3.9, it can be done but does come with great risk. and the risk is not that worth if u just wanna enable the location function in google maps. btw, there's some news that GeoHot will come with a new unlock method that downgrades bootloader 4.6 to a patched 3.9, making it 'forever' unlocked (still dunno how the outcome will be). thus it will be better if hold for the downgrade now, and wait for any great news to come.

Added on February 20, 2008, 4:39 amoww...btw the function in google maps can be enabled via LocateMe

Thank LaskarCinta. Sorry for not being to able earlier. So beside the LocateMe function, what other advantages that 3.9 BL has over 4.6? So currently there is no way to make the location function on 4.6BL?

I'll most likely be getting my iPhone in a month's time. I'm pretty sure by then, my iPhone would be in 1.1.4 and hopefully a jailbreaker is out when it reaches my hand too. But anyway, i could always put the iPhone in DFU mode and downgrade it to 1.1.3 as with iPod touch, yeh?

Read somewhere stating that Ziphone can only
jailbreak 1.1.4 and not unlocking it. Dunno if it is
true.. but for the meantime... think it's best not
to update yet.....
*
Now this is scary cuz the iPhone i'll be getting would most likely be in 1.1.4.
Correct me if i'm wrong but i think i can always downgrade it to 1.1.3 via DFU mode and then a-j-u from there.

By the way, can someone post photos from iPhone's camera? Preferably with the default cam s/ware and with 3rd ones.

Yep it gets rid of everything from your iPhone,

you can get your contents back on your iPhone after restoring,

by simply choosing "restore from backup" instead of "set up as a new iPhone"

chills mate, everything is fine =)

So.... if i get a 1.1.4 OTB can i downgrade to 1.1.3 via DFU and a-j-u from there?

It's celcom 128k 3G.. But it 50% chances a, some can read some cannot.

Other card seems to be fine. Now I saw a few prob with maxis 3G card.

Certain 3G Maxis sim card cannot send SMS. This is because Iphone cannot read maxis sms center. Can set the sms center no using *5005*7572*+60120000015# but sometime it will not works again.
*
I see. Does maxis centre provide ordinary SIM card as an exchange for a 3G sim card?

No need to use v2.3 ... can straight use v2.5c. Zibri corrected the bug already.
So now we could have 1.1.4 with the latest bootloader (4.6) and baseband (4.05)?
