Hello guys,

I just realize one of my tortoise is different from other species.

As you can see the top right tortoise, the shape of the shell is different from others.

Just wondering is that Burmese Star Tortoise?

Is Burmese or Indian Star Tortoise more expensive?

Thank you !
*
Sorry to disapoint you , all yours are the normal Star ie Indian / Sri Lankan Star @ Geochelone elegans

Burmese star @ Geochelone platynota are rarer in market and cost a lot more try 10 X more !!

But nice Star fleet you got there !!

Hello, thanks for the quick reply.

Why is the star shell different from others. The top right seems not as shinny as other star tortoise.

I have been comparing Burmese and Indian Star in google but still couldnt differentiate it.. do you mind to teach me?

Thanks !

Btw, is Leopard Tortoise more sensitive than Star Tortoise? I mean like.. star tortoise can be put outdoor but leopard tortoise can't adapt to damp condition where Msia always has high humidity.

Is Leopard Tortoise can be put on outdoor (Msia weather)?

Cheers
*
Indian / Sri Lankan Star will differ slightly due to them from quite a big range there are different locale ie Northern , Southern , Sri-Lankan form ...etc

Some are darker than the rest , some will max out larger and some will grow lumpier shell ...etc but all still G.elegans

One of the best way to tell them ( Burmese and Indian ) apart as Juv to adult is to turn them over to compare their plastron !!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Leopard are indeed more unpredictable than most tortoise sp sold in our market

But with certain things provided ie a dry warm place to heat up when it rain outdoor ...etc they can be put outdoor for prolong period !!!

star can easily differentiate by their star pattern. indian or sri langka normally more than 6, while the other is 6 or less. the shape of the stars i mean. haha... right uzairi?

golden thread turtle i saw someone selling in the net. wanna ask is that this turtle is the normal 'grass turtle' that we found in malaysia? wondering around bushes and grass land... my friend from seremban saw the picture just now and said he always saw this type of turtle wonder around his house.. ( a bit in kampung )
*
The common "grass turtle " is most likely Cuora amboinensis or Malayan / Asian Box

Whereas the Golden thread is from Taiwan and surround ( But they thrive like RES when released so if you find one in the wild dont be suprised )

Is the below link the one you saw selling in the net - http://www.adpost.com/my/pets/18401/

Dont even start to compare prices !!

As there are many cost involve ie transport to get those livestock from Penisular .....etc

WC Spiny Hill sell for less than RM 50 a pc here in Sabah I could even get CB hatchling Spiny for about RM 100 a pc !!!

If I am not wrong Spiny sell for RM 200 - 350 retail !!!

Compare / match that !!

This is a good site to read :
http://africantortoise.com/

I feed mine with hibiscus leaves-flower (2-3 times/week), opuntia cactus (once a week), weeds(main food) ( few types, depend on what i come across each day, but beware of poisonous plant).

Actually their main diet should be grass, but small tort seems show no interest in grass
*
Weeds ?? Any specific that you feed often ??

Just met him yesterday, heard he is a radiata breeder o.O

up to you to decide whether he is or not. biggrin.gif

King83

Just to let you know that in another forum (closed down already )
He claims a lot of things (having hundreds of Radiated is one of them )

But he cant even tell some of his own Tortoise sp apart !!

Some basic facts about Radiated he cant even get it right let alone trying to breed them !!! (luck or WC gravid Female bought)
- Dwarf race of Radiated that will stay small
- His Radiated can grow real quick to adults and start breeding a lot smaller ...etc

Like what Valjean say its up to you to decide !!

*
Ya that female !! We have thought hard before rejecting !! As ours are proven Adults and if they do produce eggs / hatchlings 2008 / 2009 will look out for more adults !!

As for now trying to raise the smaller one to adulthood !!
