Hi guys, let's share about our 7 series on the overclock side.
I can only managed to OC my 7800gt with core speed at 480Mhz and memory speed at 1150Mhz. That's the furthest range I can go with 100% stability. Further than that, it would hang my pc if the load is high. What about you guys? Feel free to bump in on anything concerning the topic.. wink.gif

Well, u should try OC. The probability for a card to spoil becoz of an OC is very very low. If the clock is set to high, u can see an artifact or ur system would hang. So, later u can just lower the clock.. wink.gif

To OC, u can go find the latest Riva Tuner software. Go and search the software at http://www.guru3d.com. You can also control the fan speed. wink.gif

Not sure but overclock core and shader is the important one. They gain more FPS than mem,mem only gain a frame or 1 and oc will make it live a lot shorter.

What's your max OC, and core temperature? Also, what's the maximum temperature for the core itself? I read somewhere that it was about 110C.

I can only managed to OC my 7800gt with core speed at 480Mhz and memory speed at 1150Mhz. That's the furthest range I can go with 100% stability. Further than that, it would hang my pc if the load is high.

Did you do the BIOS voltmod? I'm so far at 505MHz core and 1135MHz memory with the 1.5v voltmod, didn't get me any extra overclocking headroom but it stabilized things at higher speeds.

What's your 7800GT model anyway? smile.gif

Well you could give it a try, as it only adds an extra 0.1v to the core. Mine shot up a mere 5C after doing the mod, which help me attain stability at high clocks. Not bad for something which takes less than 5 minutes biggrin.gif

Mentioned a few posts back, XFX pre-overclocked. 505MHz on core starts to give me small artifacts, backing down to 500MHz solves the problem.

I did RTHDRIBL runs with my memory on 1300MHz, but crashed shortly after. I'll try 1275MHz if it works.

Back with updates. Core speed is stuck at 500MHz, as 505MHz would cause flickering textures. As for the memory, 1150MHz was the highest I could go without encountering any lockups during overnight loops of 3DMark06. Funny thing is, RTHDRIBL would happily run all night.

Anyone knows of better stress settings for RTHDRIBL besides increasing the multisampling rate and detail features?

So far, it's still one of the best DX9 cards out there for it's price-to-performance ratio.

Funny, back during those days excessive memory overclocking will show warped and flickering artifacts while excessive core overclocking will cause white dots on textures. Now, pushing memory speed over the limit will run perfectly till the whole PC hangs, and with core speed pushed too far will cause flickers on textures. Things have seriously changed sweat.gif

Mine goes even higher than yours on load, so there's practically no harm in OCing it a little. I've heard that the core can withstand temperatures up to 110C, if that would incline you to push it over the edge smile.gif

Increase slowly and do stability test.
No one can tell you how much your card can go.
Monitor your temperature.

Hi.
I'm new to OC and had only tried it out for real today.
I had own my 7300GT for about a year now and it was to replace my old FX5700LE.
Never attempt to OC it 'cause I really considered myself lucky to be able to find a replacement AGP card, and getting a slight upgrade at the same time, when the FX5700LE got fried.
Didn't wanna mess up 7300GT and have myself out on search for another one.
But over the last week I've been thinking of getting a new PC all together.
So I thought what the heck, let's see what the limit of my lil 7300GT.
And here's my result, using ATI tool:
Factory Clock: 400/500
Tweaked Clock: 600/1000
And 600/1000 is actually the 'safe value', which by the way, exceeds the limit allowed on RivaTuner i.e. 600/750.
First sign of freeze/artifacts occurs at 649/1049.
I don't know much 'bout this but the gains sure got me impressed.
I then use the 'scan for artifacts' function at 600/1000 for 20 minutes and there's still not sign of artifacts.
The temperature never got above 88 as well.
So for all of you who're more experience out there, please tell me what do you think.
Is this a good result as I think? Or is there something bad that I overlooked?
Thanks in advance. smile.gif

*Seems like I spoke too soon.
After the while the program detected artifacts from time to time.
Really minor ones but I think I'd better lower the figures. sweat.gif
