Ok i try to make it clearer, my main question is supposed the only ps3 model we can buy is the 40 gig one, that only support asian region games, have anyone tried their ps2 asian region game on their ps3 40 gig system? Can anyone tell me if it work pls? Also if cannot work, i seems to hear you can download some emulator to make ur ps2 game work on ps3 is that true?

I think PS3 dont have any problems playing PS2 games of any region, but just to set the record straight, it will only play original PS2 games. Not pasar malam brand.

Not pasar malam brand. i need you to confirm if you got ry urself or not, because some people said only 60 gig version can play ps2 game cause have build in ps2 chip or something, that's why they cut cost and stop selling 60 gig anymore, they say 80 gig got software emulation, but 40 gig dont ahve any, so not sure, i need a solid confirmation, anyone got try their ps2 games on their ps3 system, pls try if you got and tell me if it works, thx, some people here must have both ps2 and ps3 right?

i got 80gig Asian PS3 and i can play God of War 2 asian version flawlessly. But not all Asian PS2 games has english language support.
if you want to play US version of PS2 games,..get either 60 or 80 gig US PS3.
How to buy?....heh, import it from Amazon or other online shop

Judging from recent news, it would appear that the 60 and 80Gb models are being phased out by Sony, so it'd be wise to get them before their gone from the market completely. It is speculated that backwards compatibility might be possible on the 40gb model via emulation, but that all depends on whether Sony is willing to release a firmware upgrade that contains an emulator. Getting Started

start.
the 40GB PS3 CANNOT play PS2 games at all because it doesnt have the emotion engine chip or the (software) emulator.
you can't download/hack anything right now to enable it to play ori or pirate ps2 games as well.
end.

Reason being a new technology is being developed for this task (read EMU) but from my opinion, maybe we have to pay for this emu, and its not gonna be 100% compatible.
