I'm with you mate. Cantona tops the list of my favourite Man Utd player (Pele is best though
), and that gigantic Schmeichel, best goalie that football has ever seen. The Pele of the goal post.

Haha~! And who would you say is the best goalkeeper? Lev Yashin as voted by IFFHS? Or Dudek or Reina?
In the EPL, only Schmeichel had won both European and World's best goalkeeper twice in a row. Cech won that title in 2005. Coming from Man Utd fans, who do you think we would fancy as the best?

Schmeichel is famous for his intimidating physique (he wears an XXXL shirt and stands 6'4" tall) and his attacking threat. Throughout his career, Schmeichel scored 11 goals, a great feat for a keeper. He is the most capped player for the Denmark national team, with 129 games and one goal between 1987 and 2001. Apart from Euro 92, he played for his country at the 1998 FIFA World Cup and three additional European Championship tournaments. He captained the national team in 30 matches.
Today, he is widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers in the history of football. The IFFHS ranked Schmeichel among the top ten keepers of the 20th century in 2000 and in 2001, Schmeichel won a public poll held by Reuters, when the majority of the 200,000 participants voted him as the best goalkeeper ever, ahead of Lev Yashin and Gordon Banks. In 2003, Schmeichel was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame in recognition of his impact on the English game. In March 2004, he was named as one of the "125 greatest living footballers", at the FIFA 100 celebrations.
He holds the record for the greatest clean sheets-to-games ratio in the Premiership with 42% of the games he played in the Premiership ending without his team conceding.

Oh c'mon. I know "back in the days" is a great term to use, but did they face the same challenge as the current crop of goalkeepers? The sport has advanced, and so have the players. You really can't Pele and Maradona to Ronaldo or Kaka because they are from different era. They maybe greats once upon a time, but that doesn't mean that they could do the same if they are in the current generation (and as young as before). But we wouldn't know that because there's no way we can travel back into that era, cryogenically freeze or kidnap one of the greats at his prime, and then bring him to the present to compete with the current crop of greats. I see Schmeichel as the best goalkeeper in the 90s.
I would say now that Cantona is still better than Ronaldo, but Ronaldo is improving and has a high chance to surpass his No.7 predecessor. But, we can't see the future, so let's talk the present, shall we?

Which is why one should never say best ever. You corrected yourself.
As for them not facing the same challenges, did they ever have the benefits of technology and modern training or even modern medical treatment?

1. Alright. You made a point there. Schmeichel is the best goalkeeper I've ever seen so far.
2. That's the point... It's hard to compare when there aren't any levelled playing grounds.

...Schmeichel is a legend no doubt. I try to avoid using records as a gauge of a players calibre. I mean Reina has won the Golden Gloves 2 seasons in succession but no one rates him. Of the keeper that I have seen play and rate at least on par with Schmeichel are Dino Zoff, Peter Shilton, Walter Zenga, Thomas Ravelli and Oliver Kahn. I rate Sergio Goycochea, Pat Bonner and perhaps even Jim Leighton a rung below.

This debate on who is the best goalkeeper is becoming out of topic of the real topic of this thread.. Hehe..
I think everyone has their rights to say who is the best... but it's just an opinion and not an absolute statement. I mean, same goes to when you say you support the club because you say it's the best club in the world.. It's just your personal own opinion.
I have mates who say Grobelaar is the best and I won't challenge their statement. Who couldn't forget his antics or achievements?
As my earlier posting, I was just mentioning the reason why I supported my club and how I got into it...

Peter Shilton had better records than Gordon Banks...but I guess his predecessor deserve some credits as well. On the IFFHS, Gordon Banks was second to Lev Yashin as the best goalkeeper of the century...but I guess most of us here didn't seen him play at all. Heck, some won't even know Shilton. Maybe they know Seaman...but I guess, that's just about it. The last of the great goalkeepers of England. Hope Foster develop well to replace the inconsistent Robinson.

Supposedly the 'best' save ever and this is all they managed to film? God dem it, where is SkySports Replay when you need it!
That's Pele vs Gordan Banks btw
