Bro, go read the iPhone thread for more info.
If it's 1.1.3, NO, don't get yet. Still can't unlock to use with any sim other than AT&T. If it is 1.1.2, then it would be okay. Wait for the launch if you want peace of mind that if anything happens, you can claim warranty easily. yeah, wait for the launch in malaysia. and grab your second gen iphone. hihihi...
mmm...even if it does really come here, don't expect it to tie up with your preferred operator. myb its on operator M, or C, or D. Also if it goes tied with any telco, don't think that u can use your existing simcard to be used with, even from the same telco. it needs the iPhone plan. but yeah, you can still transfer existing phone number, but it is then tied to the new plan. yeah, IF it does really come here. if that happen, and if u insist to use your existing sim, and if it is tied to other network that u not prefer, u still need to unlock your iPhone if you wish to use it without any contract. That makes no difference from the unofficial iPhones existing in the market now. btw i think maybe it will be here when the exclusive deal between Apple and telcos expires. or maybe it will be country-locked only. or maybe not. it's just my thought. just keep playing the waiting game! yup it's really fun to play with. good luck then. QUOTE(cereal1 @ Jan 24 2008, 09:43 AM) even if you buy now, does it have warranty?? yup, there's no warranty. Bear in mind that when u r buying the iPhone that came from US (yup the cheapest is from US), it's like buying an AP set phone. Not really it's an AP, but in term of warranty, yes it is.coz in SG, iphone does not have any valid warranty coz these sellers buy from USA and Apple is trying to forbid them to sell in SG... About the case of Apple forbid the sale of unlocked iPhones in Singapore, myb it's a clue that it will be officially available in Singapore soon. Actually, it doesn't have warranty because: 1. iPhone is not sold in the country, thus the service centres are not dealing with iPhone 2. iPhone is not covered by international warranty like iPod does. 3. iPhone warranty is covered partially by both Apple and telco. As the price is actually subsidized by telco, that means the coverage is also by both sides. As unlocked iPhones here doesn't come with the supposed iPhone plan package, there's really no warranty covering the product. So for peace of mind, just wait for the official version. Still, there's no any word that it will come here. But if u're adventurous enough, just get one. |

Here is another thing to consider what if the iPhone comes here but with a very expensive contract plan or a provider you don't like and cannot switch your present carrier (ie: Company Line).
You'll probably end up jailbreaking and unlocking the phone which would void your warranty anyway. Or you might not even having that option in the future... with apple locking down the firmware tightly There has never been a better time to get an iPhone IMHO This post has been edited by aaronpang: Jan 24 2008, 02:13 PM |

What's with all these awkward questions on 'should I buy the phone now'? The answer to a release date for the localized iPhone even for the Asian market alone is indefinite, let alone Malaysia which Apple doesn't even take interest in.
The most likely answer to your question, TS, is simply NO. It's very unlikely that the same generation iPhone we see in the US, UK, German and French markets today will come to Asia without any changes. One specific reason being the EDGE-reliant data networking. Besides, they'd probably take the opportunity to release it here as a 2nd gen product with hard-fixes and a new firmware update. If the phone you're thinking of 'buying now' is either 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 OTB, then sure, you won't even have to wait for an official launch here to use your phone. If if it's a 1.1.3 OTB, there'd still be unlocking solutions for the local SIM cards WAY before the phone localizes here. If it's the official iPhone data plans you're asking about, we still have no idea whether any of the 3 major mobile provider players here have even made any progress in their talks with Apple, not to mention the future prices for such plans in comparison to the American and European costs which you don't want to imagine as lordsharingan pointed out. Good luck! |

Jeez, mate, that's because your phone came with 1.1.2 OTB and was manually upgraded to 1.1.3 using the recently-released Dev Team/Nate True JB method, which didn't upgrade your baseband to the latest 04.03.13_G baseband which doesn't have an unlock yet. 1.1.3 phones OTB already come with this new baseband, so they cannot be unlocked using either anySIM or X-SIM For WIFI, I tompang network neighbour, better and faster reception on Safari compared to my Tytn II and my HP notebook, Amazing... |
