It was around year 2000 when I start supporting Liverpool. The likes of young Owen and Gerrard, Smicer,Biscan, Fowler and last but not least the infamous treble. rclxms.gif

Apart from European sides, Malaysian sides and the "Top 4" sides, I see 2 members here who supports Newcastle and Southampton. Any fans of other EPL clubs around?

I for one am not a supporter of any of the so called "Top 4" (or is it Top 3 now). smile.gif

Yes... I've been a Toffee for almost 30 years now. So I really know what it feels to have a pained expression over the years... blush.gif

Change my avatar? Kenapa? Can't imagine a Toffee with an avatar like that? blink.gif

I think it's safe to say so far that a good majority of fans support their teams because of their achievements, or players. I have to say that if Liverpool were languishing at the bottom of the league when I started watching football, I'd probably not have been a fan. Of course we didn't have ASTRO back then and if they were bottom, you'd never get to see them play. Live matches were at a premium back then. It's rare though to come across anyone who has a deeper underlying reason for supporting their club.

it started in 1996. ( my first jersey )
i was at a shop in brunei. shop selling fake jersey. I have to choose between the black/stripes shirt or red shrit with sharp or green/white carlsberg shirt.

I chose the green/white carlsberg shirt. Coz it look familiar to me. I tot I always saw this guy with a plaster on his nose when wearing this jersey.

thats it!! i am a liverpool supporter ever since.

My story is a little different, it started with national football. I was 8 during the 1998 World Cup, only thing I knew about football was Manchester United and the World Cup final (France and Brazil). Long story short, Zidane scored two headers in the final and for me as a 8 year I didn't know people supported clubs, I just liked the way Zidane played so to me Zidane = Football.

And then I found out Zidane transferred to a huge club named Real Madrid. From then on I slowly learnt about football, the differences between national sides and club sides, primarily from newspapers. Ronaldo came to Madrid the very next year in 2002 and that's when I really started to support Real Madrid as besides Zidane, Ronaldo was the other player I recognised from the 1998 World Cup Final.

You could say the Galactico policy got me supporting Real Madrid.

I started to support Man United way back in around 1992, 1993 somewhere around that time. As my place is near to Brunei, every sunday around 1-2 pm, me and my uncle would watch the Brunei TV for English Premier League highlight. No TV3 that time. My first game that I watched (or at least the highlight) was when Cantona still had his hand in cast, vs Arsenal, a freekick which he scored. Dont know much about football that time (not that I know much now), but I felt something special from this team. So, I started supporting them since then, and yeah my father used to buy me VHS of monthly(?) MUFC highlight. rclxms.gif to poison me even more. brows.gif

as for my case,
i started as a Manchester United supporter when i was young
probably...they were the strongest team back then
either that they were the more popular club compared to others
well it was quite fun supporting them
till 1 fine day...i notice that EVERYONE was supporting the same team, to many people supporting the same team
everywhere you go..whether its mamak or friends/relatives/family
GO MU GO MU
it was then i decided to change,
and it was that day that the team
Arsenal defeated MU on some match..i wasnt quite sure
Anelka caught my attention along with Overmars n Bergkamp
it was then i became a Gooner before i notice it
and led the journey till now

it was the same for country supporting
changed from Brazil to France

it all went better when most of the France team were in the Arsenal squad
Henry-Pires-Viera era
