hi people.. i hv found a small newborn kitten (it can hardly open its eyes a lil) at my house doorstep last saturday morning. comes nicely along with a box, tower, and a plate of milk. no idea who left it there thou.. i think maybe he/she wants me to rear it? but anyway.. it was very irresponsible of the owner.

i've been given the kitten soya drink(those powder make 1), bread and sardine.. but it seems eats very little. i was wondering was the food that i provide is unsuitable? but i can see some improvements as the 1st day it was shivering.. now it seems quite ok. just hardly eat my food.

what food should i give it then? sorry for my inexperience as i nv rear cats before.. especially those new born.

now the kitten keep meowing.. why? is it hungry?

any enlightenments are much appreciated! i need help very urgent!

Added on April 28, 2008, 7:49 pmoh ya.. and also i left it (with the box of course) outside of my house with shelter.. will it catch a cold?

Soy milk, bread and sardines? For a newborn, those are bad stuff to feed.

Go to a petshop or vet clinic and purchase kitten replacement formula and a nursing bottle.

how much would they cost? approx? actually i hv no intention to rear it. but since it came alone.. kesian.. i think it would be very cruel to let it survive in the world out there. i intend to release it when it is bigger enough or maybe send it to SPCA or anything.

first of all... f**k that person who leave that kitten like that sad.gif i will get some cat shit and put infront his/her house ahahahah..

anyway follow "crazymouse_yyh". never ever feed kitten/cat with human food (the one we eat and drink).

you can get kitten milk, bottle from the petshop. can even get it at supermarket such as giant, carrefour, tesco.

your case, the kitten still very very small.. if the eyes is not open yet, the estimated age is 1-10 days. still very very fragile.

get a box, put newspaper/towel inside it, and put your kitten in. please make sure it is room temperature, kitten need very warm temperature like under your bed. it will died if it is very cold. remember no mom, no food.

milk powder for kitten is not so expensive, the one from giant/testo/carrefour is cheap. its in white pack with 3 siamese kitten if im not mistaken. oh well.. as long as the milk powder is for KITTEN then its ok already. bottle i think the chepest is less than rm10.

if you have friend(s) that have experience with orphan kitten, please ask help from them.

if you have friend(s) with a female cat that just give birth, please ask help from them.

good luck! keep them warm and give milk.

thx for the info! i thought these pets' stuff are very expensive! it is quite cheap. i still can afford! (initially i tot it would way up to more than RM50..) and the problem now is the shops are now closed. and i only hv the time tomorrow after my study (which end around 7pm) i wonder can it still survive with the soya milk? do i need to feed anything else other than milk? i read from google that we cannot feed the cow's milk..

omg i do not hv any friends who rear cats b4.. all of them rear dogs. arghhh.

Added on April 28, 2008, 9:08 pmthe tower was prepared by the previous owner already.. smile.gif how thoughtful of him! *BLEKKK* but it always gets wet as the kitten tends to step on the plate and all the milk flow out.. then i change a dry cloth for it.. as i am afraid it is cold.

already changed abt 3 times now. running of of the rag rugs soon.

oh yea.. i hv moved it to my garage.. i hope it won't be too cold for it..

yaiks.. u mention the kitten eyes not yet open right. at this stage, they don't know how to lick and drink themself. they only know how to suckling their mother milk. sure u really need a pet bottle soon.
*
all right.. i drove thru the town quickly and fortunately there is still 1 pet shop not closing.. quickly bought the bottle. and i intend to buy the milk powder also. but it is in a very big pack! abt 500g i think. as i think that it might not drink up to so much.. thus, the pet shop owner suggsted me to feed baby milk to it.

quickly drove home and i filled in the bottle with warm baby milk and started to feed the cat. but the cat is very resistant to it.. it doesn't seems want to suck at all. i tried to hold its head put the head of the bottle towards the cat's mouth but it simply turn its head away.. after 1 hr of struggling, i gave up. however, it does drank up a few drops of milk. (i think maybe 7 - 8)

i gave soda cream biscuit for it to eat. suprisingly it ate up almost half piece of the bicsuit.. but seems very unwillingly. i and my mom keep moving the biscuit near its mouth then only the cat start to bite. (we drown the biscuit 1st in the baby milk to make it softer)

can anyone teach me how to feed properly?

the cat knew how to lick already.. i have seen it licked the soya drink for a few times. the only thing i worry that is got ppl told me these small kitten cannot lick properly as they will choke their nose then they lick.

i still do not get some point here.

first u mention the eyes is not open yet? at this age, kitten stomach can only digest milk. how do u feed buscuit anyway? how the kitten bite the buscuit?

if the petshop say give baby milk, then you can try. but my vet never recommend milk for human given to kitten.

"Never feed a kitten cow's milk or human baby formula as this causes stomach upset and severe diarrhea. If a kitten is already dehydrated, this could prove fatal. This includes condensed/evaporated canned cow's milk!" Taken from http://www.kittenbaby.com/

poke the pet bottle with something sharp, not to big, not to small.. good enough to make milk come out when the kitten bite it. if it refuse while drinking, stop for a while. do not continue, else they will chock and milk come out from the nose = not a good sign.

i think you kitten big enough already since it can lick and drink. if very small, they hardly move and the head seem to be heavy = so cannot eat yet. still need to drink.
*
the eyes are opened.. but seems like open little only. the kitten just bite the biscuit like other big cats did. however, it can't crunch the biscuit. then we dip the biscuit into baby milk to make it soft. after that it can eat the biscuit and keep chewing and chewing. (quite alot of biscuit chips dropped out while it is chewing) omg.. i already feed some baby milk to it. should i stop now?

regarding the bottle i bought cannot flow out milk initially, then i poke it with a needle.. still cannot. after that i poke with my scissors.. still cannot.. at the end i cut the head directly and now the hole becomes quite big.. but still the milk won't come out without pressing the bottle.

i hate this cat! it don't wanna drink at all.. maybe i should try out cat milk tomorrow.

shall give a call to spca too.. will they adopt this cat? i hv no time to rear it.. i am facing my mid year exams.

hi...i have experience this kind of scenario before..i tried to fed my baby<haha> by using the nursing bottle but she just refuse..

My solution??
First, i try to dip corner of a towel into milk, it works, she really likes it but it tooks time as i need to to dip again and again and again.
So, i come out with a really good idea and it really works.
Just use a very small sponge (dishwash sponge, which means u need to cut it), and place the sponge in the a small plate.pour the milk and
u'll see that ur cat will try to suck the milk out of it..

and dont let the cat lick milk/water at this age.

Food?just give whiskas for kitten. RM1.20 oni ma...
Dont give chunky food.. they dunno how to eat it.

Just please dont give ur cat away..its like a blessing if u have animals in ur house..=)

thx for the info.. shall try them out later!

Maybe this kitten has come to you for a reason, an animal to love and care for is indeed a blessing.

If you are not able or willing to care for it properly, no one will blame you.
If that is really the case please do try your best to find someone who can help.
Rather than try to force yourself to do something you cannot cope with and end up taking shortcuts that cause the kitten to suffer.
Just be honest with yourself and make the best decision for this furry little bit of innocent life that was put in your hands.

If you really want to give this kitten a chance to live you have to give 100% effort.
A kitten that young is very fragile, its not a good time to be experimenting with different kinds of milk and food.
To help you imagine what kind of havoc the kittens stomach and digestive system will experience with the wrong milk,
imagine giving a newborn human baby a bottle filled with whiskey coke.

If someone was trying to feed you something that was making you feel that ill would you be willing to drink it?

hm.. but aren't they proper food i give? i give it "cat biscuit" also. (small fish shaped biscuit, which claimed by the pet shop it is cats' food) it just don't wanna eat. i already put the bottle in front of its mouth.. it doesn't suck at all. it doesn't even smell!

ok.. will buy the kitten milk later and try smile.gif

i am very sorry that i hv disappointed u all. the kitten died.

just got home and i found it lying with the tower covering it's upper torso. and i turned the tower over.. it DIED. i was shocked..

i hv no idea why it died.. abruptly.. yesterday night it was still so lively. and now it is not moving at all. it was my fault who neglected it and it died tragically.

yesteday 1930 just called up spca jb. but they offered no help as there are already a few hundreds of animals to look after. they gave me some advices instead.

he said the kitten won't drink my milk is because it haven't urinate. they asked me to wipe the kitten's backside so that is to urge the kitten to urinate. at 1945, i wiped the backside with a wet cloth for abt half an hour.. and then i saw a few drops of yellowish liquid flowed out.. i thought it has urinated. again i make some baby milk to feed... still, it refuse to drink (spca ppl told me it is appropriate to feed baby milk)

2045, i was running for a funeral. then i left a plate to plain water and some bread in the box for the kitten (in order to survive at least, i really hv no idea what to give that time. kitten milk? damned! i exempted it because i think i can always buy tomorrow! my fault..)

2300, got home and checked the kitten once again.. feed it again, still it refuse to drink. then i wiped its backside again for another 10 mins.. still nothing comes out. i was a little despair. and hence i went bath and sleep.

1830 today, got home after school and checked the kitten at once. it DIED.

i was so sad.. i think i hv disappoited everyone here. the previous owner.. u all told me to take care this small life with my 100% effort. i admit i can't cope because i am busy.. and again i misassume that kitten won't die so easily. but it just died.

i am really sad now.. i've killed a small innocent life indirectly...

sorry.

Added on April 30, 2008, 7:26 pmi've just buried the kitten in front my house.. i shall always remember it.
