Depends on the firmware, and the game, older custom firmware checks to see if the UMD is running, if there is no UMD it won't run the game.heard ppl say that we need a UMD disc to run with the psp if playing homebrew right ....

with newer firmware you can access the recovery console and disable the UMD check.
