The rear headlamp reminds me of the Toyota Corolla Altis?

This was actually a unit put up for public view in Jusco.I got to sit in the passenger seat and to my surprise it was very comfortable. The rear legroom was adequate enough and I like the new dashboard design which looks like a Honda Accord.

Never buy as new... value will drop after 1 year of ownership badly! Plus, FC will be crap because the ECU is not tuned to adapt to our local fuel.

Nissan Bluebird Sylphy was indeed spotted in Malaysia (being tested OTR)

Source - This was indeed an old news.

i think i got some issue la.... that Sylphy name sound like some VD to me. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

The new Elantra 2.0 @ sub RM100k is indeed an attraction. The look is nothing revolutionary and interior wise... i think the Korean still have some catching up to do. Overall not bad at all.

issue here is will Kah Motor slap those nonsense accessories on Elantra. Twin exhaust la... fake shark fin antenna la... rear garnish... C-class or car of the year sticker la... u know, those thing Kah motor is so famous for... nice car made ah beng looking by Kah Motor.

Can anyone confirm if Elantra here uses the new Theta family engine? From Wiki, Elantra in US uses the Beta II engine.

Hyundai should move to 5 speed auto with the new Elantra. Civic have gone 5 speed and Lancer come with CVT. a 5 speed auto on Elantra would make it more desirable.

many malaysians have a bad opinion of hyundai cars based on previous models.
fact is hyundai already made great improvement in the latest models, they are going head on with honda/toyota in america

CVVT is continuous variable valve timing, is not CVT as in continuous variable transmission. Kah Bintang says it is a 4spd automatic.

im not sure about the spareparts
but people often complain about the bad second hand value of those cars

unless you're those who changes car every 2-3years
i dont see a problem

lets take altis as an example
altis is around 111k, while civic 2.0 is around 120k

elantra is 91k, that makes it around 20k cheaper

if you plan to sell the car after 5 years or so, the difference in the used car value is about the same as the initial difference you pay isnt it

from KB website:
The new 2008 Elantra is powerpacked with a 2 litre powerplant delivering 143PS while providing fuel economy that rivals 1.8 litre cars. At a price below RM94,000 the new Elantra CVVT is a great buy.

The new hyundai elantra is seriously a good deal, for 94k you can get a 2.0 mid size saloon with full spec goodies, simply one of the bargains we can find now. But from what i know, this could be an introductory price, and possibility it will priced to 100k a few months later. Still its cheap.

The only gripe for me with Hyundai is the local distributors, Kah Bintang which i seriously not fond with. Their notorious "cheapo" scheme by taking out some essentials to cut cost and their infamous additional accessories is still haunting the otherwise fabulous new Hyundai Accent 1.6 (the bodykit is a must go away, bring the 2nd airbag and rear disc brakes), but luckily they spared the Elantra.

Hope this goes all the way, i dont want to see a RXS version of Elantra with huge GT wings. shakehead.gif

again, malaysian only look at used car value
therefore they insist on the T and H badge

most of them value the used car value over anything else, including driving dynamics(no, im not saying the elantra is nice to drive tongue.gif, im talking about contis in this context)

Extractly, that the thing i hate about Kah Bintang. How i wish Hyundai malaysia or Inokom bought over Kah Bintang and fire all their chinaman executives and management. I think even Inokom is better than Kah Bintang.

Now Kah Bintang is showing off fuel consumption to get buyers. Hmmm hmm.gif

The Elantra isn't a mid-size saloon, it's a C-segment (compact size) car in the likes of the Altis and Civic.

Of course, in Malaysia, a Perodua Viva is called a Supermini (Myvi, Getz and Saga is supposed to belong in this category) so I guess for Malaysians you can call it mid-sized.

I've seen this car on Australian roads last year, looks pretty good. The interior shot on the first post looks very good too.

I think Hyundai has greatly improved recently. Of course, I probably prefer buying a 2nd hand one as it's much cheaper, but this is a new model so it leaves that option out. tongue.gif As a long-term car, it's not bad if the price can be RM 90k. Technology is still lacking in terms of transmission though, and I would very much prefer a manual. I guess manual is just not mainstream enough anymore.

It will be a while before ppl can accept korean cars like how we receive japanese cars now. In europe today Korean cars like the Kia has impressed alot and doing even better than some European marques.

I not sure about the new Elantra, perhaps maybe reducing 4-6 airbags to 2. The one they cut off a num of accessories will be the current accent. Worse they add an unnecessary bodykit with fake dual exhaust. shakehead.gif

Just test drove this car today.

My score: 8.5/10

Pros:
1) VERY VERY VERY quiet engine. Honestly, I didn't even know if the engine was turned on. No jerks, no sound, no vibrations.

2) Powerful, very smooth transmission too.

3) Interior. Beautiful interior for its price. Blue ambient lighting which you can actually set the brightness. Nice CD player with AUX for iPod too.

4) Auto climate airconds. Air conds that can adjust to the temperature and auto set the coolness.

5) Talking reverse sensor. A sensor that tells you how many feet are you aways from a wall when you reverse, it's a girl's voice anyway smile.gif

6) Leather seats, leather gear knob and leather trimmings.

7) A lot of extra accessories like a lot of cup holders, sunglass holders etc.

8) The spare tyre is the same exact size (16") and it's the same sports rims!

9) Oh, did I say VERY VERY VERY QUIET AND STABLE ENGINE?

Cons:

1) Beige-coloured seats, not my taste.

2) No passenger air bags

3) No auto-fold side mirrors

It's only RM93,888. To me, it's a real bargain. Really considering it now.

Oh by the way, waiting period is only 10 working days.

What I meant was no airbags for the passengers behind, as compared to Civic 2.0, which is another car I'm looking at.

i guess 7-8 secs to 100km/h is manual version.

this car vs civic i would choose civic 2.0 la, the looks and legroom won by civic.

but for me 1.8 civic n elantra, i would choose elantra.

elantra is spacious, especially the width.
leather seats.
lol this car has better horsepower & 189nm torque if not wrong.
is better than civic 1.8 haha.

i gt went inside the car n my friend civic.
civic 1.8 no leather , and civic guess has better legroom(rear seats).

143ps for elantra 2.0 vs 1.8 civic 140ps.
186nm torque for elantra 2.0 vs 170nm torque for civic 1.8

elantra still has better hp and more powerful torque.

civic 2.0 155 hp
Torque 188nm .

the torque of elantra 2.0 is very near to civic 2.0
highway drag still can match i guess.

power!!! flex.gif

inside my friend civic 1.8 the car accelerate smoothly and silence, drive 14x still no loud and just like 100km/h ,
so steady. perhaps civic has better sound insulation.

test drive this car from PJ 222 and the SA let me whack the car "kao kao"..turn out to federal highway and start to press the acceration and very fast to reach 130km/H and feel like 80KM/H (seated 4 person in the car) and the engine is very quiet and very stable..and can feel still have plenty of "ommph" if u dare to press deep enough but quite a lot of car on that time so i didnt go all the way.. steering very light but i think is ok cos most of the EPS steering also very light.. and then i request to seat at the back as passenger and let the SA drive and he also drive quite fast, high speed cornering and try on bumpy road and as a passenger i feel quite comfortable at the back...
overall i think this is a good car and the interior is thumbup.gif and also the interior blue light..quite cool..i like it.. maybe will go there to place a booking on friday..SA told me after loan approve and can collect your car in 7 days (2008 made and any colour)..now confuse which color to get..BLACK or GRAY..?? prefer BLACK cos more spory but difficult to maintain.. rclxub.gif

Maybe you can check up a bit on the quality of Honda Civics here in Malaysia, on how the users are planning to take legal action against Honda.

Or even the amount of complaints regarding the RM20k CVT gearbox of the Honda City.

They have to compete in US market which is not the same as here. I believe the New Elantra 2008 is a big change over from the previous version. It up to the people here to accept and test it out.

Resale value for this new Elantra is cannot be confirmed yet as this is a big change over from the previous version. But nonetheless, I think it'll still not be as good as T or H or N brand, the value will depends on how much people appreciate it and demand.

Anyway, the specs and features for that price is really making those T, H and N looks bad. If people starts to favour and question, probably those T, H and N would consider lowering their prices and introduce better specs (or simply don't simply strip off the original specs). Competition is GOOD! Cmon' start questioning and pressure those SA, make T, H and N feels it. I would love to see all these cars having good competitive specs, features and also pricing.

Just my 2 "WON".

n i believe Elantra's cornering is much more better coz Accent's is not too good as d body feels not "rigid"..maybe a strut bar would do d trick...

I went to see the car today. Here's my take.

Exterior
Initial look the car looked ordinary, because it looks like previous generation Altis. If you give it a few more glance you'll notice that it has a more aggressive look. Nowhere near the current Altis however.

Exterior feature is quite basic. There is no signal indicator on the side of the car. Signal lights are absent from the wing mirror as well although it's not the industry standard to have them yet I'd expect them to put it in as it's pretty standard in the car segmet Elantra falls into.

Interior
A lot of feature for a 93k car. Not up to the standard of Altis but you can live with what Altis has and Elantra don't, unless you want a car that look like the cockpit of a jet fighter and even then you won't take the Altis for that. You'll probably take the civic instead.

The dash lighting strikes my heart. Switches and dash are lit in light blue similar to watches night light that's pleasant to the eyes. Center console felt and looked a bit cheap, it looked dull because the buttons are all close to the same size and square in shape. The climate control consist of clear button that are fully illuminated with a information LCD in the middle.

Interior don't feel sardine, back passengers have a lot of leg room as well. My knee do not touch the front seat despite it extending all the way back, which is a nice point for taller people/with long legs.

Performance
Key point after Wednesday is fuel economy. I was surprised by their claim that the 2.0 engine is capable of achieving mile like their 1.6 engine in Accent. Flyer claims 10.9km/L and the sale person personally claimed that the car is capable of traveling to Tanjung Malim from KL on RM25 petrol(RM1.92 rate), both way if I am not mistaken.

Engine power is low for a 2.0 engine. Compared with Civic.

Ride comfort is compromise between Altis and Civic. Somewhere in the sweet spot of removing wobbly feeling of soft suspension without going too stiff to crack your spine laugh.gif

Misc stuff that got me attracted
Insulation, the car is well insulated from sound. And KahBintang's tyre choice also make an impact to further lower down ride noise.

The car lacks immobilizer but they do put effort into preventing break in from happening in the first place.

KahBintang has their own insurance package where it insure you a full car replacement or 100% car price for the first year and 100% car price for 2nd year. There is also a buy back guarantee provided you do not modify the car that will void the warranty condition but hey, who modifies an Elantra?

The sport kit is about 10k more. Nothing to shout about and I feel it actually make the car look worse. Go for it if you have ricer gene in you. The only thing that increase performance it the 'sport edition' is the twin exhaust.

My take? I have changed my mind from an Altis to an Elantra smile.gif

I actually had booked for Civic.....but changed up my mind, after the petrol raise and bad service from Honda...Long waiting queue for the car.

I went to check out on the new Hyundai Elantra last month, found out that the sales from Kah Bintang..is totaly different with the HOnda sales (super lansi). They explain to me everything and can even provide me the Test drive car to drive back home and test for the whole weekend. Sales person are friendly , helpful and they wont chase or request to pay for deposit for the car...NOT like Honda, ask me paid RM 3k for deposit on Civic mad.gif

I have the test drive car with me for the whole weekend. At first i only pump up RM 20 petrol and test ...but found out that, RM 20 petrol can go up to 84KM for this new Elantra.
This really amaze me, and i have took the car and go KL-Putrajay and test, i tested 170KM/h, with 4 ppl on the car still not the top speed... can still go up, but i stop at 170 cause this is not my own car.... cry.gif else i will tested the Top speed. The car still stable on 170KM/H, only some noise from the GoodYear Tyre...

Car handling is ok......the steering is light and easy to control but if compare with Civic 2.0 feet that civic is still better/

The interior was nice design...with all blue indicator light, tested the sound system..not bad i even tested to connect my Ipod with AUX cable to the car brows.gif .

The sound quality nice and found one thing interesting is on the reverse sensor recorded with real human voice...."5 feet, 4 feet, 3 feet...."

After my test drive, i decided to take back the booking fees from Honda and get a Hyundai Elantra 2.0, the price between Civic 2.0 and Hyundai 2.0 is huge different....RM128, 588 VS RM93, 888. Almost 35K different, but both also 2.0 Car rolleyes.gif, although Civic look nicer and better Engine (155ps) but is 30K different wor.....

* To me the only different is on the brand and both "H" logo.......Honda logo "H" while....Hyundai logo "H with H senget a bit, thats why the pirce huge different lolz..

so for current owners of this 08 elantra, do you experienced any problems be it major and minor?

im now in dilenma to decide between elantra and altis. the price is around 15k+ difference and that amount is not that huge and not that small.

test drive both car, of course when in T i felt more "action" but elantra is just nice.

RM20 = 84km
RM20 = 11.11l @ RM1.80/l

84km/11.11l = 7.56km/l

I personally think that's some quite high FC. Unless I calculated wrongly.

but i think he was going more than 110km/h ..which is testing top speed with the car...hence...RM$20 for 84km would be semi normal.

but I am amazed that you credit the suspension and handling for this car...which I've driven them semi city/highway drive....and it seriously was bad for me. I'm surprised the writer did not feel floating at those speed...or maybe the 4 people grounded the car better....

is the beta II engine same like spectra 5?just that 1 is 2.0 and another 1.6 since hyundai and KIA are sister company...spectra 5 uses elentra's chasis.
