Well, first of all, WEP is crackable using packet sniffing but then WPA/WPA2 required a little bit(or a whole lot more) of work using a brute force attack (MD5 Hash attack). For example, like

There are good reasons for this, but i'll explain it next time when I have more time to write.
Other than PRISM2 or Atheros chipsets, you could try using a hacked WRT54G router instead. Not as portable, but it does the job, and are easy to find.
