[single] Mai Kuraki - Silent love ~open my heart~ / BE WITH U

SINGLE REVIEW
Mai Kuraki - Silent love ~open my heart~
/ BE WITH U

1. Silent love ~open my heart~
2. BE WITH U
3. Silent love ~open my heart~ -instrumental-
4. BE WITH U -instrumental-

This is Mai Kuraki's 27th single and it was released on November 28, 2007. This single reached #9 on the Oricon Weekly Charts and it has sold 30,625 copies.

The first track is the winter love ballad Silent love ~open my heart~. The music is kind of typical and has all the characteristics of a standard ballad, but Mai Kuraki's vocals breathe life into the song. Her gorgeous, soulful voice makes up for everything else, which isn't a bad thing at all. I will admit that the song will leave you with a warm, fuzzy feeling. Plus, there's no annoying background vocals like in Shiroi Yuki and Season of love!

Talk about a perfect contrast. BE WITH U is an extremely upbeat song with a nice beat and constant acoustics. The chorus is insanely catchy and I've gotten it stuck in my head on several occasions. The song is reminscent of her older works because of the constant beats but has the twist of her recent pop tracks. It's a fun listen.

Overall Grade: A

Check out Mai Kuraki's new song guyz !

Check this song out, its a collaboration of Yuna Ito and.... Celine Dion~!

[single] A WORLD TO BELIEVE IN with Yuna Ito and Celine Dion

Yuna Ito × Celine Dion - Anata ga Iru Kagiri
~A WORLD TO BELIEVE IN~

1. Anata ga Iru Kagiri ~A WORLD TO BELIEVE IN~
2. Anata ga Iru Kagiri ~A WORLD TO BELIEVE IN~
(U.S.A. Mix)
3. Anata ga Iru Kagiri ~A WORLD TO BELIEVE IN~
(Yuna Ito Solo Ver.)
4. Anata ga Iru Kagiri ~A WORLD TO BELIEVE IN~
(Instrumental)

This is a special collaboration single between Yuna Ito and Celine Dion and it was released on January 16, 2008. This single reached #8 on the Oricon Weekly Charts and it has so far sold 11,778 copies.

Anata ga Iru Kagiri ~A WORLD TO BELIEVE IN~ is one of the best collaboration songs I have heard in a long time and it was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. The song is a sweeping pop power ballad with sincere and thoughtful lyrics. The drums and electric guitar were a were a nice extra addition too. The music is the same as Celine Dion's original English version, but she has re-recorded her English parts alongside Yuna Ito who sang the new Japanese parts. I honestly thought that Dion, being the vocal powerhouse that she is, would definitely overpower Ito's vocals during the chorus where they sang together, but Ito firmly stood her ground and also presented a strong performance as well. Their voices blend together well when they sing the You gave me a world to believe in line and when Dion provides background vocals during Ito's Japanese parts and the bridge (I think she does anyway). If you're curious, you can find Celine Dion's original version on her latest studio album Taking Chances.

I thought the U.S.A Mix of the song was going to be a collaboration of the English version, but it's the same as the Japanese version. The only difference is that chorus focuses more on Dion's vocals during the English parts. You can clearly hear her voice this time around instead of it being blended with Ito's.

I was impressed with Yuna Ito's solo version because she performed it well. Besides being in Japanese, the lyrics are different during the verses too. Everything else remains the same though.

Check out Koda Kumi's new album biggrin.gif

user posted image[single] Koda Kumi - anytime

SINGLE REVIEW
Koda Kumi - anytime

1. anytime
2. Bounce
3. anytime -FreeTEMPO remix-
4. anytime -Instrumental-
5. Bounce -Instrumental-

This is Koda Kumi's 39th single and it was released on January 23, 2008.

anytime is just one of those songs that always puts a smile on my face everytime I listen to it. Koda Kumi has done it again with this gorgeous and incredibly sweet pop ballad. The strings are really pretty and even though there is a pretty constant beat in the music, it doesn't deviate from anything but actually gives the song a little personality. Kumi's vocals are excellent as well and she reaches those high notes with gentle ease and precision. This song was supposed to be on the FREAKY single as just a B-side, but I'm glad that it got its own single release.

The B-side is an absolutely thumping track. Bounce is a spunky song filled with quick beats and short synth lines. Kumi's vocals are carefree and flow quite well with the music, making this a fun song to jam to. An excellent B-side and definitely one of her better ones.

Included on the single is the FreeTEMPO of anytime. The remix has the classic FreeTEMPO touch with its faster paced vocals, jazzy piano at the beginning, and a buildup to a more club oriented sound further in. This guy makes good remixes, what can I say? The only problem I had was that speeding up Kumi's vocals made them sound odd at times, especially during the verses.

Overall Grade: A+
