the best position is to put the xbox diagonally...balance it on its ends..hehehe

well, there's no 'best' way, but personally:

1. horizontally

2. elevate the console at least 3 inches high (put something on each of the four ends to elevate; wooden blocks, cassette tapes, etc)

3. elevate the power brick from the floor (using the shoe box trick - you can google it)

this is to allow air flow on the bottom of the console (if put horizontally), and cools off the motherboard. as for the power brick, airflow is important...don't rely on the built in fans/ventilation.

also, NEVER put the console in a confined space (e.g.: cabinet).

better to put in in open space, OR on a rack with very wide openings on all sides of the console.

enjoy your new xbox dude! welcome to the community! laugh.gif

I put mine in horizontal position...I've read an article on the Net from Ben Heck, the guy who made the portable xbox360 and whole lot of other modified consoles, and in the article he said THEORETICALLY if we put the 360 in horizontal position the 360 should be a bit cooler compared to vertical position..

nway as in previous post it all depends on luck...my previous 2 3ROD 360s i put in vertical position...now i put my Elite in horizontal position...i noticed that it's a bit cooler even after playing for 6 hours...touchwood that i wont kena 3 ROD again...

I've put mine horizontally. I think more important than orientation is to make sure nothing touches it. Ever. I don't even swap discs now since I'm pretty occupied with the Orange Box (when I have time to play, that is). I use the remote to turn it on and off, so basically there is no chance of anything being moved. Don't know if this will help, but it sure ain't gonna harm it either.
