I was working rather late at the new year eve. Since traffic is all jam up, I decided to stay and wait for the count down. The fireworks were taken at my office's root top.
I set the picture mode to faithful and highlight preserve on custom function like usual. It seem the constrast is rather low for most of your taste... I guess it is what i got from the picture mode. Maybe next time can try other mode. All the fireworks were shot on ISO200, and the other street photo is all shot at ISO1600. The noise level on my 40D at ISO1600 is considered ok and acceptable. I had seen those fireworks picture on internet is so clean and perfect without smoke. How did they do that? Or just photoshop power? Because I already can see the smoke with my eyes... and how did they remove that? Is it simply snap always not good enought? Attached thumbnail(s) |

Here are some more...
And my found my 40D autofocus also not perfect... There was one picture attached actually OOF and focus on the float/bubble rather than the subjects. And in general, there are at least 1~2 pictures (in low light) out of 10 still OOF. It is still not as good as the 5D where I can get all pictures perfectly in focus.... As usual, C&C is welcome... TheVoIP....to get clean picture without the smoke, you need to use smaller aperture.

u very bad luck, the smoke blowing towards your direction.. whole klcc nearly covered in smoke, dont think there's much you can do about it, unless u superimpose another klcc on top.. haha..
increasing contrast should help bring out the fireworks This post has been edited by dx_myrddraal: Jan 25 2008, 11:44 AM |

Some I already use up to f16 liao lo... QUOTE(dx_myrddraal @ Jan 25 2008, 11:43 AM) u very bad luck, the smoke blowing towards your direction.. whole klcc nearly covered in smoke, dont think there's much you can do about it, unless u superimpose another klcc on top.. haha.. So solution;increasing contrast should help bring out the fireworks (1) Upgrade my luck or pray more before shooting... I actually forgot to pray and it did rain half an hour before the count down begin... (2) I get your idea on super-impose second image... But dunnot how to do la... especially on when the firewoks happen, then I baru re-zoom and re-compose... So a bit hard to get the same clean picture without the fireworks.... I was happen to be in MidValley on Saturday and managed to take some fashion shot, only for one session... The 5:00pm one as I wasn't expecting these... After that, I have to rush to other place with my friend.
As some of you might had pointed out that my compostion suck as usual... it is because I did not bring a tele zoom... and instead shooting with a prime. Some more all picture without cropping or any photoshop... So there are really limitation.... Hope you like it... QUOTE(shinchan^^ @ Jan 28 2008, 10:38 AM) You should be right...But the 5D's 300mm is shorter one... something like 200mm on normal croppping factor camera... Some more they got IS to compensate the shaking... I tried thier camera... really siok... you can see the IS work because shaking already reduced so much on the view finder... |
