Samsung to discontinue UP5000 hybrid player
Only months after its introduction, Samsung has already decided to discontinue the BD-UP5000, its hybrid Blu-Ray/HD DVD movie player. The unit was to have been one of the most powerful players Samsung had produced, with 1080p24, HDMI 1.3, and an Ethernet port for Internet content; users have reported substantial problems with it however, such the inability to run HD audio codecs, or properly view discs such as Sunshine or 3:10 to Yuma. Other problems have included troubles with with standard DVDs or the 4:3 aspect ratio.

Although Samsung notes that no timeframe for the 5000's demise has been set, some preliminary reports suggested that it could come in May. A replacement is due in the second half of the year; this schedule is shared with the sibling UP5500, which also shares many of the same features.

Do all think now is the time to buy HD or BD players? I mean the price is still kinda expensive and the technology has yet to stable, plus there aren;t a lot of choices in the market yet.

Sadly, no one here wanna bulk this player anymore. 

Are you gonna volunteer to bulk the player for us? 

Toshiba Malaysia should do something.

Latest news. Toshiba will stop HD DVD business soon.

5:00PM - Right on time, Toshiba's president, Nishida-san, takes the podium. He is talking about how great and advanced HD DVD was. WAS. He is also speaking about how Toshiba shared a good partnership with Warner. "There was a difficult decision. Multiple standards have a huge impact on consumers."

5:15 - Now he's just reading from the release, more or less. They're on to bigger and better things: two new NAND factories in Japan, one will be jointly-operated with SanDisk.

Three part Q: what was the cause of HD DVD's failure? What is Toshiba doing with its Aomori HD DVD factory? And what about the timing of the announcement?
A: From an objective, fair point of view, we were clearly in a good place until last December and January. So we were very, very surprised by Warner's announcement. As for the Aomori factory, nothing is final at this moment.

Q: Any plans to adopt Blu-ray?
A: No plans at all, not at this moment.

Q: Are there no plans for next gen optical disc at all?
A: We don't have any plans to announce at this time.

Q: Is there any risk of a class action lawsuit against Toshiba for the format war?
A: [For early adopters] there will be always be a risk in buying, that is how it works in the US. We are just hardware maker, so our legal risk is relatively low, we believe.

XA2? How much ? Like maybe 5 times the price of the A30 

only those who bought at high prices for HD-dvd software like movies..will be redundant.. those who bought 99USD players, still ok, can use as upscaling DVD player.. ok lor.
