It's a pity they didn't put Cardin in. She would have made great eye candy

I've watched Idol for many seasons now and I have to say little David Archuleta's performance has to be one of the best I've witnessed. He's just in a different class. But has he peaked too soon?

Brooke surprised me today. The rest of the girls were nothing to shout about imo. And why attempt "All By Myself"? As Simon said, u gotta be one heck of a singer to pull that song off.

QUOTE(nasigoreng @ Feb 28 2008, 09:34 PM) Jason Castro? Take away his guitar and he'll just be a guy with average vocals imo. He'll make the top 12 i think but i think the top 3 would be too much of a ask for him. |

QUOTE(BurgaFlippinMan @ Feb 28 2008, 10:26 PM) I like Castro..probably not the strongest singer per se but he has this indie vibe about him. Cool stuff. I agree. But this is after all a singing competition. But it's a good way to get noticed anyway Added on February 29, 2008, 12:01 amI actually missed Carly's performance earlier. Having watched it I thought she did pretty well as well. So that's 2 girls that did well in my books. This post has been edited by verx: Feb 29 2008, 12:01 AM |

David Cook and Jason Castro were my favourite performances this week. They surprised me I have to admit. In a good way nonetheless.

QUOTE(kobe8byrant @ Mar 12 2008, 10:02 PM) lol, was kidding. But what do you think of Castro? I think this week's performance exposed his weakness as a one-trick pony. Castro...well I did say before that he isn't the best vocalist...so he has to be abit smarter when picking his songs. I thought the song he sang today exposed his lack of range (he totally couldn't reach the higher notes). But when he is in his zone he is a pretty good performer. But he has very hot relatives sitting in the corner as well. |

QUOTE(Nostalgia @ Mar 13 2008, 11:50 AM) Brooke was superb again last night!!! And that makes it 3 great performances for the past 3 weeks! The shots were nothing special lar...don't need to overreact Besides Brooke, Carly also impressed me and I was surprised with Chikeze's performance although I don't really like him! Sigh, Lee Cook disappoints again and her arrangement on that song was Those are some pretty scandalous shots there! Who would've thought Ramiele... And I'm surprised Hernandez got the boot. Kristy gave me a headache with her arrangement and that's a first |

Anyone else think it was lame they did Beatles again this week?
David A and Carly's performances were the best for me. Didn't understand Simon's criticism of Carly. |

QUOTE(BurgaFlippinMan @ Mar 19 2008, 11:21 PM) No I don't think so. Like Randy said, every week can be Beatles Week. Don't get me wrong. I love the Beatles Syesha and David A gets my vote for the best performances. Carly put in another great vocal demonstration but IMO, Blackbird is not a song which works when you go big with it. Its just such an intimate song I did think that the performances this week were mostly mediocre though. The problem is those tunes are so ingrained into global pop culture that its very VERY difficult to do something different and get away with it. At least nobody tried to do a major melody and harmonic change like what Castro did last week. The genius behind the Beatles compositions is their outrageous chord progression and unconventional harmony which is at the real edge of falling apart and ruining the whole song yet somehow through some magic remains coherent. Tampering with genius simply doesn't work. But it just seemed to me like they were trying to milk the whole thing. I dunno...maybe it's just me. Added on March 20, 2008, 2:12 pm QUOTE(BurgaFlippinMan @ Mar 20 2008, 08:52 AM) Even by today's standards, the Beatles sound is more innovative than a lot of the current crap being produced nowadays. They are far from 'old school'. Agree 1000000000000%! This post has been edited by verx: Mar 20 2008, 02:12 PM |

QUOTE(kobe8byrant @ Mar 27 2008, 02:42 PM) I too don't mind either and I don't really bother to watch the results show. But in any case, was Lee Cook crap again? Can't believe how many cat lives she's used up Couldn't agree with u more. As Simon said it was a very "smart" song choice. Appealing to patriotism is always a clever way to get votes don't u think |

You know when i first heard David Cook's Billie Jean i was blown away. But after some googling it turns out it wasn't his original arrangement. To be fair Ryan Seacrest did credit Chris Cornell (one of my favourite rock vocalists

QUOTE(BurgaFlippinMan @ Mar 28 2008, 12:01 AM) Actually she was pretty good. It was a bona fide Americana song, which I dont really mind (though when Ryan announced it I thought she was going to sing the even more awesome God Bless America song instead...which unfortunately is a 1918 piece) I thought she was her same bland old self. She has absolutely zero stage personality. |

I actually thought KLC sang pretty well this week. I think this is the first time I actually liked her performance
But my fav was Jason's one. I'm with Burga. It'll be a tough elimination this week. I've a feeling Carly's in trouble but i hope she gets through. |

I dunno about Castro trying new stuff. He's been pretty predictable as well. But he sang well this week so it would have been unfair if he was voted out. I'm surprised that Michael is gone but in a way I'm not that surprised as well. (Confused?

I disagree as well. This year has been unique in my opinion. I actually found last year boring.
I've so far held my reservations about David Cook's originality (that Billie Jean arrangement wasn't his) but this week....just hand the guy the damn thing already! I know it is still a long way to go but this guy is the raw deal. Meanwhile I'm going to search for a youtube recap of his performance This post has been edited by verx: Apr 16 2008, 07:13 PM |
