I liked the guy with the dreadlocks and the guitar.
Burga - looking forward to see the Janis Joplin nurse and the hot Kristy girl today
Burga2 - thinks Brooke looks a tad malnourished
Burga3 - still struggling to remember the names of the contestants.

I like Castro..probably not the strongest singer per se but he has this indie vibe about him. Cool stuff.

i think at this stage this season has a better cast than the last. what was poor about this season were the audition shows. there was nothing to equal the Bush Baby Kid and Big Red of last year, and Simon seemed pretty much disinterested most of the time.

QUOTE(kobe8byrant @ Mar 6 2008, 06:38 PM) Even without the scandal, what are the chances of him going to the finals? And Lee Cook, please STRAIGHTEN your hair! Curly hair looks good on her. QUOTE(kobe8byrant @ Mar 6 2008, 08:21 PM) Brooke White's the best again Nonsense! The Joplin nurse was better!

QUOTE(paco @ Mar 8 2008, 12:52 AM) Within the top 12, all are actually quite good, except one is way too overrated: Jason Castro. I think he is a fine singer, though he isnt the generic Idol vocal powerhouse finalist. I like his understated nuance.

QUOTE(paco @ Mar 9 2008, 03:40 PM) Not to say he is a bad singer, but I think he is selling his charm more than the vocal. The comment from judges also , especially from Simon, after he sing that Haliluah song (I found nothing special on this performance), obvious pimping. I thought it was a fine performance. The sincerity was what made it special. The judges however, were definitely pimping that kid's (whatever his name is again) Imagine a week earlier. It was a horrible arrangement of the song and no amount of vocal acrobatics could save it, though I don't think he deserves to be kicked out yet of course

Carly owned it today by far for me. Cook was great once he got to the chorus, i thought the phrasing was a bit off earlier in the song

QUOTE(verx @ Mar 12 2008, 10:30 PM) Castro...well I did say before that he isn't the best vocalist...so he has to be abit smarter when picking his songs. I thought the song he sang today exposed his lack of range (he totally couldn't reach the higher notes). But when he is in his zone he is a pretty good performer. I think he should have started off a bit lower, so the high notes will be within reach. That said, I don't know whether he really couldn't reach them or he was just trying to give it a twist via nuance. That didn't bother me as much as the changes to the melody he did in the later part of the song.

QUOTE(verx @ Mar 19 2008, 09:58 PM) Anyone else think it was lame they did Beatles again this week? David A and Carly's performances were the best for me. Didn't understand Simon's criticism of Carly. No I don't think so. Like Randy said, every week can be Beatles Week. Syesha and David A gets my vote for the best performances. Carly put in another great vocal demonstration but IMO, Blackbird is not a song which works when you go big with it. Its just such an intimate song I did think that the performances this week were mostly mediocre though. The problem is those tunes are so ingrained into global pop culture that its very VERY difficult to do something different and get away with it. At least nobody tried to do a major melody and harmonic change like what Castro did last week. The genius behind the Beatles compositions is their outrageous chord progression and unconventional harmony which is at the real edge of falling apart and ruining the whole song yet somehow through some magic remains coherent. Tampering with genius simply doesn't work. This post has been edited by BurgaFlippinMan: Mar 20 2008, 12:13 AM

Even by today's standards, the Beatles sound is more innovative than a lot of the current crap being produced nowadays. They are far from 'old school'.

QUOTE(verx @ Mar 20 2008, 02:12 PM) Don't get me wrong. I love the Beatles But it just seemed to me like they were trying to milk the whole thing. I dunno...maybe it's just me. Added on March 20, 2008, 2:12 pmAgree 1000000000000%! What's lamer is the incessant plugging of the full length tracks on iTunes (and the iPhone). QUOTE(kobe8byrant @ Mar 27 2008, 02:42 PM) But in any case, was Lee Cook crap again? Can't believe how many cat lives she's used up Actually she was pretty good. It was a bona fide Americana song, which I dont really mind (though when Ryan announced it I thought she was going to sing the even more awesome God Bless America song instead...which unfortunately is a 1918 piece)

QUOTE(mukhlisz @ Apr 3 2008, 09:30 PM) man i HATE country music. I dont get why many Malaysians do. As for Ramiele, it was the right decision. She hasn't really been that good for the past few weeks. I feel that KLC is a tad underrated around here. Her performances overall have been mostly just enough to keep her in (similar to Castro). She did put in a good one last week, and a damned decent one a few days ago. And I feel that Ramiele's and Brooke's performances in Beatles Week #2 was easily as boot-worthy as Kristy's Eight Days a Week. This post has been edited by BurgaFlippinMan: Apr 4 2008, 01:22 PM
