Hi all FS enthusiasts,

I came across this thread one day as I was bored sitting at the office. Wow, i couldnt stop reading for like 30 pages. Kudos to all of you esp mindstorm and viper for sharing all your experiences. I use to be crazy about fs as well, but stopped as the number of ppl dwindled off. I noticed when the thread started, you asked to share our experiences, so here's mine. Long time ago, i use to have the biggest and most garang fs in my school, 1st king for 1 year. Mindstorm, I am one more to confirm that 'sui paos' are big, as mine was caught next to a monsoon drain. I was really young but really loved fs so i soaked in all i could learn from others and my own experiences. Being young, the older boys would keep trying to topple my fs and claim king of the hill, but I held on till my fs passed on, i think of old age. But most of the fights last time were nowhere as garang as the utube videos that u guys upload tho shocking.gif , except once.

This was the battle btw 2nd and 1st king, and the contender (a good friend of mine) was an all-black, and what you guys would call kup-pao (sp?). Basically, no dance, just chop. It was slightly smaller, but man o man, was it aggressive. I was afraid for my fs! sweat.gif Anyways, fight started, and as predicted, immediate chop from all-black. I was worried bc my fs seldom faught with any kup-paos. And this was quite big. They grappled for a some time, then both jumped off the box; hung on their webs and continued chopping in mid air. After like 10 secs, all-black was not moving. My fs had eaten all-black and climbed back up with all-black in his mouth. I felt really bad for my friend, but coudlnt do anything bout it then liao.

But enough about past, would like to share something that I did not come across in the threads so far. What do u guys think is the ideal food for fs? I always thought that the golden spider (quite small, we use to call it kam-chin) was the ideal, next came the shiny mosquito looking fly, we called fei-chin. Do u guys feed them kam-chins? They are normally quite easy to spot as they hang out on the top leaves looking for small tiny insects. Since I reading your forums last week, I couldnt wait for the weekend, as it was time to rekindle my childhood hobby, sat morning last week, the hunt was on. I live in bukit damansara area, and this place use to be full of fs, mainly in the big leaf bushes, sorry dont have a pic, but i've seen it in some of the 'tutorials' here. But now, all houses liao doh.gif Its so difficult to find a good deserted area with a big gene pool of fs. I started my hunt at 7 am, tried kiara hills (no luck), then a deserted road on kiara road (goes to the top of the hill where there's a tnb electric house, surprisingly no luck), then finally lake gardens. Wah, the first 10 mins bending down, i saw 2 males rclxm9.gif And both had female in their nests as well. But.....these were the smallest males i've ever seen in my life! lol, doh.gif I decided to release them back and continue my search. I spent 2+ good hours of hard searching, I didnt find any more males. I combed the entire road liao, so disappointing. At the last few minutes of giving up, I checked one last nest that was quite high up (my head level) and to my surprise.....kung! The nest was quite tight, so I ddint have my hopes up for a big male (in my experience, big males' nests were normally low and very few webs. I cut the leaves and didnt check it till I reached home. It was my first decent size male after many years and I cant tell whether its M Big or L size. Still cant btw sweat.gif But i know its nowhere as big as BigHead or Archilles notworthy.gif . Following your trend of naming our fs, I named him Colgate, cuz he keeps cleaning his teeth, haha. Anyways, unsatisfied with my # of catch, I started off again yesterday morning. I rounded the entire solaris/hartamas area, couldnt really find a good place to catch. I've only caught fs in the big leaves as they were rampant in my area long ago. I actually didnt know till now, that we can find them in the dense leaf crawlers as well. Anyways, i proceeded to Kenny hills (near the hockey stadium). Cut long story short, i think I found a great place. Caught 4 males, but only 2 decent size (nomad & specter), 1 seems to be in the midst of turning male (akwa, tongue.gif ) and 1 small one (didnt bother to name, gonna release). Its next to a road so quite easy to catch. I suspect there should be more good places to catch in kenny hills area.

So total now, I have 5 fs, 2 of which im going to release tomorrow. This is because i dont have time to catch food for them! Which leads me to my next question, do u guys know of a time-effective way of feeding them? I dont like to feed them ants as i dont think its that good for them to grow. I cant catch flies for the life of me, dun have also around my house, lol. I saw some beautiful pics of fs munching on baby crickets, so i tried going to the pet store just now to buy some. None of them sell baby, only adults which is soo big. I gotta find a solution fast as 2 of my males are quite hungry liao. I fed them 2 ants each just now, which i dont think will last too long. So my plan is to wake up in the morning to catch food, gosh, so hard to keep fs while working, lol.

Oh ya, one more thing before I forget. Mindstorm, in your research so far, have you found that fs is slowly getting extinct? Im just wondering bc I have a theory that a specific species of black ants are wiping them out. In lake gardens, almost all female nests with eggs had a bunch of black ants attacking it. They are eating the eggs. But so far, this is only evident in the big leaf bushes. Dunno bout the other bushes.

Anyways, hope to go hunting with you guys sometime, if bros from SG do come, pls include me in the hunt! thumbup.gif I dont think i can take leave to join u guys tho, u guys ganas... Mindstorm, i noticed that you have expanded your interest to other species liao, do u still catch fs?

Halo Halo everybody, thanks for the warm welcome. So funny when i saw the blood mosquito, cuz thats what I did for Colgate as well. That desperate morning, i stood at the garden waiting for mosquito and caught one biting me. Colgate super fat now, haha. I did release 2 of my fs, now left with 3. Im not sure if my biggest is considered big, will have to get some square paper and take a photo. Problem is, my camera cant macro that well rclxub.gif Will try to upload a photo tomorrow, tonight is dota night ^^.

The black ants are only attacking the female nests and all nest with eggs. No wonder that section of lake gardens had so little fs. I went to the far top section where they most probably dont use insecticide. Besides there, I dont know where in lake gardens to catch liao.

So mindstorm, do you have any bavia video fights? hehe, wonder how they fight.

To be honest, i really sayang my spiders, and after seeing everybody's utube videos, esp the choppers, i nervous to let colgate fight leh. But if size similar to max, ok lets give it a try. Lol, im nervous already, not kiasu, but more kiasee! scared colgate mati straight, hahaha.

Catching food these few days really challenging for me, bc for some reason, there are no insects around my house. I think the gardener uses some powderful insecticide. But no worries la, I will sacrifice myself to the mosquitos if really desperate, ahhaha.

Btw, for the SG bros thinking of coming to KL. Have you guys thought about making a trip to Sabah instead. I have been considering to go with my dad to catch fs and make a casual documentary for a looong time. This is because during my trip to hike Mount Kinabalu, i saw the biggest male fs just walking on the leaves. It was brilliant blue too! This was just at the base camp where tons of ppl gather around before starting the hike. And it was quite cold for that altitude, like foothill of genting cold. Since then, i've planned to make a trip there to catch fs. Maybe we make a trip to KK instead of KL? Or if too ambitious, then as Ken25 pointed out, maybe foothills of genting also worth a try.

Ok good to meet u guys, have a good week.

Hi Mindstorm Viper,

This is a little short notice, but would you guys like to meet up tomorrow early morning? Thinking of exploring new place to catch fs, and food insects too. Give me a call if you guys free.

Also, this is a noob question, but how do u attach pics? Tried attaching file yesterday, but it timed-out. Gonna try hotlinking, this is a pic of Colgate I took yesterday. Happy Friday everybody.

Hi Kjnn.

Nice FS pics u. Your FS seems like a partial chop type. Its colour look abit dark. Have try to fight/spar with other FS?

I'm working this weekends.. only off on mon 1 day nia.. haiz.
But next month, i'll have alot leaves on weekends. maybe can meet up or if sg fs kakis come over den more fun la.

Where u stay?
Can add me in msn msgr v_viper88 to chit chat.
*
Waddap Viper,

Wow, u r really good man, yah, i also think it is partial chop type. Cant confirm bc the other 2 spiders I have much smaller than him, so kecut straight. But i did see him try to chop through the cassette tape wall when he saw the other fs in the other case, ahhaha. What size do u think this is? I cant take any closer and he is jumpy, hard to focus.

I stay in Bukit Damansara, very near Sri Cempaka. Do u know where Plaza Damansara is? Near there also. Yah, looking forward to meeting up. Go cari fs alone quite ok, but so much more fun to go with friend. Lets meet up Sat next week, call Mindstorm too.

Oh today, i caught a fs, opened the leaf a bit, see male, then i cut leaf. Went home, discovered the poor guy only got 5 legs sad.gif 3 on left (no kong) and 1 kong and 1 leg on right. He can barely walk, but can still jump. So i plan to let him go, but before that, just fight with a tiny male that i have. He is a full on chop! 5 legs still so ferocious, crazy. And btw, i think u guys are so right. After non-chop fight with chop, he becomes a chop! Didnt know this. But I dont really want my fs to become choppers, cuz risk of fatality much higher in fights. He cant even hunt for himself now, was really thirsty, shows he hungry also. Manage to feed him a fruit fly. Think i will keep him la, dont think he will survive outside on his own.

I dont normally use msn, but will start. My nick: kjinn@hotmail.com, but I dont use this email. Just for chat. Hope to see u next week, havea good one. thumbup.gif Hi Jong71 smile.gif

hi I am thinking of starting fs again but cannot find any near my house. Do any of u noe where to find fs in puchong?
*
Sorry JianShen, not familiar with puchong area. But surf this thread's previous pages, there are pics of plants that you will find fs. Good luck.

Viper,
Those are the dates when I will probably get busy again. I am project based, and i start new project 3rd week of nov, but sure can meet up on weekends, no worries. Colgate turns out to be a full on chop, but.....he just pounces, grapple for like 2 secs, then kecut doh.gif Nothing spectacular, more like feeling up the other guy! hahahah. But he is quite a lot bigger than the other fs i have. I have about 5 now, all kinda normal size.

Caught 'quiksilver' near the longkang, had such big hopes that hes a biggie but turns out normal size. Silver-ish color tho, quite special color. I found a nice place to catch in Kenny Hills, lets go there sometime soon. Mindstorm, lets meet up too. Lets try letting colgate and max takau rclxms.gif Colgate a bit kecut now tho sweat.gif Or weekday night yamcha also can thumbup.gif

Thanks for the tip of leaving banana, really solved my food issue. So many fruit flies, biggrin.gif

Regarding the SG bros coming, i totally agree that we should go Camerons or Genting to try. I have always been curious whether really bigger as altitude increases.

Been inactive for a while, but BTL, sorry to hear about Predator, saw the video, it was an awesome fight. U'll find another preddy soon, maybe during the Msian adventure trip? rclxms.gif Really great compilation of thanias, the hongkong fs are much thinner but the kong so much longer than ours. Has anyone tried fighting them with our local fs?

QUOTE(mindstorm @ Nov 1 2009, 03:04 PM)
hoho kjinn, seems like we miss out on alot of fights all these years cuz my fren mangrovejumper also stays in Bukit Damansara and alot of our fs playing takes place in his house. Next time he comes back from US, should tinker u too.

let me know if u do wish to meet viper. i'll try to come too.
Viper, do u have any fs now?
*
Ya man, and i think we about the same age also, we should have met earlier nod.gif Maybe we open a fs shop by now, hahaha.

on a side note... we have reached over 120 pages for this tread. i heard from my sis that over 120page, usually the moderator will ask another new tread be started. so get ready. but sad to see this tread full of info will become oblivious in time to come. dunno wheather they will remove it one day.

anyway i checked our fs tread, 81,366 views for 121 pages. i think we have highest views and also highest ratio views(views to pages) in this Pet Wonderland forum. haha...another record for our fs community! thanks to all the brothers here who contributed. 3 cheers for FS and FS fanatics!!! rclxm9.gif

I must say this thread is really something special, hehe. I recently met up with a friend, and he has also ready this thread before. For ppl who use to play fs, after reading the thread, sure gian to catch.

I have been catching off and on this past week, and I got 2 new males rclxms.gif They are about same size as mox (formerly Colgate, name cannot make it so change). Here are their pics on graph paper. Pics in the order: mox, vishnu, constantine.

New home for mox. Mindstorm: followed one of your idea for cage, but tried to use magnetic double sided tape. Failed doh.gif The magnetic force not strong enough, so decided to just cut the top like your idea. biggrin.gif
user posted image

Also, check this out. I got this from Ace Hardware in Jaya33. Cost me about RM25 i think. It comes with this no-insecticide soluble pack that attracts flies. The top has a small opening in the center that allows flies to fly in but unlikely to fly out, cuz its in the center. Works great, but the water will kill the insect eventually as they will tire and fall. I plan to modify this, to be able to insert banana peel. Then just gotta cut a small slit at the top to let the fruit flies fly into a feeding tube. Thats the theory, should work, but have yet to do it. nod.gif
user posted image

No video clips as of yet, my camera cant focus macro sad.gif
Mox vs Constantine (winner: Constantine) constantine defended the jump chop really well and won the fight, but one of the leg injured.
Constantine vs Vishnu (winner: Vishnu) Just push win. Vishnu's arms are long biggrin.gif
I dont want to let Vishnu fight Mox at the moment, mox is dangerous. sweat.gif Will let them try, but not so soon, as all are super fat from eating fruit flies, haha.

Looking forward to the Msian chapter hunt bros! Come quick!

Hi everybody, long time no chat, but I do check out our forum daily ^^. Darn it Viper, should call me leh, I would love to have gone to the forest reserve with you. Looks really interesting, u didnt manage to catch any normal fs? I have tried dloading msn messenger, but dunno why cannot connect. Cant figure it out, altho im an IT consultant, ahahha.

I will try to pm u my number, don wanna post up my number. Sadly, i start on a new project Monday, and wont have time except weekends to meet u. How bout u me and mindstorm do a pilot hunt to Genting before our SG bros come to identify good places to catch. Cuz if our group big, we will waste lots of time looking for a good spot to accommodate like 6+ ppl. Bro Jong, yah, i really curious, hehe, maybe we can find king kong in Genting =). Im getting excited, haha. U guys are confirmed coming right? That SG Congkak place looks like a good place to go as a group too.

Ive never seen the species u caught, very brilliant colors. Nice to keep as pet also, hehe. Keep up the good work SG bros.

Hey Guys,

You guys still catch fighting spiders?? i used to have many of them back in the school days and now after reading this forum my passion has just struck me again. I'm hoping to join you guys for the next hunt. I'm from Damansara, to be honest i lost my touch with fighting spiders. Few things i might need to catch up again with you guys would be:

1) Care for the spiders
2) Catching the spiders
3) Comparing a good/strong spider from a bad/weak one

Regards,
Anil
*
Hi Anil, welcome. Pls read previous 2or3 post, Viper has answered most of these Qs and more. Gj viper! Im from Dmsr heights. Which Damansara are you from?

Mindstorm, I think its time we set up new thread with a FAQ and video compilation as cover page. This thread is yours bro, hehe, you should create it =). As one of our SG bros commented earlier, u should get a prize for this, haha. biggrin.gif

No need set up new thread.. This is Pet forum ma.. one single Forum topic for one type of Pet.. laugh.gif
Mindstorm can edit the 1st page and add in more info on how to take care of FS, its videos and etc stuff.

Anil and Kjinn, since you guys are from Damansara area, can contact mindstorm. He's around that area also.

Have u guys in PJ chk out this places?

Taman Tun Park - at TTDI
http://allmalaysia.info/news/story.asp?fil...55&sec=miTravel
http://www.pbase.com/tang_yiming/macro__taman_tun

Bukit Cahaya. - Shah Alam
http://www.whoa-adventures.com/GeneralAdve...04/Default.aspx

The Bukit Cahaya seems like a good place to have outdoor fun activities.  icon_idea.gif

Nowdays everyday also rain sia... very difficult to hunt FS after rain coz most of the leaves also overlapping each other coz of rain water.
*
Viper, Bukit Cahaya sounds good, lets try that. I have tried Taman Tun, but the only area I found with lots of fs are the red leaf plants very near the parking lot. But......there are lots of ppl around, haha. I have walked the entire upper route, didnt find many, very scattered. I have yet to try FRIM in kepong tho, havent been there for a looong time. Most of my fiercest fs are caught from Kenny hills, and most are decent size. Its a pity i dont have a video cam, i have 5 avg size fs, and I cant determine their 'king' positions because they are so evenly matched so results keep changing. Tonight, 1 got injured badly, all are fierce, sad no video. Gonna let them rest for few days liao.

One thing I learned from past 2 days, i dont think its a good idea to feed fs water before fight. They become quite lethargic, but will still fight. It was like a slow motion fight, hmm. Lets meet up this weekend. Mind, viper, anil and myself, shall we? Say sat morning?

Added on November 16, 2009, 11:15 pmSad sad sad night, haizzzz. I just lost Vishnu, my biggest FS. Not sure how he got out, but he's not in the case. cry.gif Really no mood liao, sighzz. Haizzzz!
