wow..lagi mahal...
If not mistaken, Imacs, MacbookPro replacements were either cheaper or same price but higher specs than the previous generations..
maybe due to this is premium product?

Also, does the price of MacPro drops after a certain period of post launching?

Not that I aware. That's why I deicided a Mac Pro is a good buy. Less revision, less price drop. The 1st gen lasted for almost 1.5 year without major revision.

betul juga...so you're going for one?

hmm, under processing, got
8-core: Two 2.8GHz, 3.0GHz, or 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5400 series processors

and a

Quad-core: One 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5400 series processor

Looks like the 2799 is for the 8-core 2 2.8Ghz.....? wonder what is the Quad Core doing there?

i thought it's a 2 x 2.8 Quad core standard....?

1 x 2.8 is a CTO model.... sweat.gif but it's still way faster than the older stock 2 x 2.66 Dual Core....

That's the lowest end model, replacing the Quad 2.0 model.

Me? Nah, my 2.66 still doing very well. As I said when I bought it, I hope I wont need to update my workstation for 3-5yrs. Somemore it's not a small purchase. All sweat and blood money there.

Might get a PC 8800GT and flash it for my Mac when the time is right. Going to dual dual-link DVI biggrin.gif

*add*

Yes, it's single proc. But it's a single proc with Quad-core inside. So its 1x4 or 2x4.

layman's term....? hmm.gif hmm.gif

Quad 2.66 against a true Quad 2.8.... in terms of gigahertz...

and the new Penryn Harpertown comes with SSE4 instructions... so if apps are optimised for it.... brows.gif

here's why
1x4 @ 2.8GHz vs 2x2 @ 2.66Ghz
1.6GHz Bus speed vs 1.33Ghz Bus speed
800MHz RAM vs 667MHz RAM

bare number already winning, but have to see how well the OS & apps work with multi-cores.

okay..the phrases `apps optimised for it'
AND

`bare number already winning'

won me over..heheheh..

hoping that the price of US2799 is not for the 1x2.8 quad model. hehehe

apple store down so cannot do `mock' buying..hehehe

yeah...i once told my US friends that in our beloved Malaysia, the highest MacPro cost RM28k....they almost fainted...a computer costing almost 30k! over there, can get a reasonable luxury car..

...if you dont consider foreign exchange and just value it at dollar per dollar of course...

you can put 4 card in. But that doesn't mean they're cross-fired or SLI. Waiting for more report on that. But 8x 30in LCD is insane.

Well the 1900XT that I run with my MacPro is inaudible except at startup when the fan kicks in at full power. It then spins down to it's normal operating speed which is silent. Even with running BF2142 and or CC3 for extended gaming sessions it remains quiet. Hopefully the 8800GT keeps the same noise level down.

I'd be interested how the new machines perform on standard PC benchmarks: PCMark; 3DMark etc. etc.

btw. Eithanius; you need a bigger monitor....

Why UK? UK store are much more expensive due to VAT.
And I wont burn my pocket for the stock/apple card when I can get plenty of choice here with PC card.

Fear not, if the hacker will get their hand on this, it should work. Some graphic card in the past also released for certain model only, but most has been modified to accept other Mac.

worth it or not.....? sweat.gif sweat.gif

if like mine, 0.34GHz difference, 4 cores to 8 cores, double the amount of L2 cache, justified lar....

but the current one is only a mere difference of 0.4GHz, same amount of cores from the standard specs... hmm.gif

btw, how much is your configuration costs, and mind listing down your configured specs...? brows.gif
