hi all, just bought a pearl ww from megamall.. vy cute n pretty but shy.. de guy thr told me she's only less than 1 month old, n i can c tat she's almost same size as my 3-weeks-old baby hammy.. de thing i'm puzzled is, how can she be separated from her mum at such a young age??i hope she wont be stunted..
*
Mass breeder / hamster mills always send their stocks to petshop at early age, so that they can have more space for another litters. As you know they can breed again right after the birth, by 2 weeks she will give birth again, that's why the earlier batch needs to be send to petshop for sale already.

Some people disagree in buying from petshops, I would say try not to... but I believe you just give a good chance to live happily for that winter white you just bought. smile.gif

i wonder why my 2 robo is so shy.. they dun play the wheel or let me touch them..they just eat, drink, hide or sleep..

they are like scared of my hand..<cry>

do i need to tame them? i'm spending quite sometime with them everyday.
like what joan told me b4 i bought them, they are superactive, they don't run, they zoommmm...hard to touch them though..
*
Play with them often. Let them get familiar with your smell. I tamed my 3 syrians babies for 1 mth I think.. until they can step on my hand volunteerily and can be picked up. But I really spend a lot of times with them... untilI become nocturnal like now. smile.gif Since robo is the fastest hamsters, i hope u have a fast hands biggrin.gif
Oh btw, based on my xperience, the easiest way to tame is also let them stay in a tank instead of cages with tunnels etc. In tanks, it's easier for you to pet them while they eat, easy to catch them also. If commercial cages with tubes etc, they can run and hide when u wanna catch and play with them. The more they feel human touch, the more tame they'll be lar.

Let's the sifu confirmed this... from my experience, it really works.

Lol..its ok la kne marah....like the proverb says "marah tandanya sayang"....haha

Btw....very tired in taming my syrians.....i think they are too little.....now a little scared to hold the creamy one coz she can easily pee when feel afraid rolleyes.gif  ....feel pity to NearDeath coz he's the 1st 'victim'..haha.....lucky im not
*
Tired taming your syrians? tongue.gif I fully trained 3 syrians babies I got from petshop... hehehe. 2 is successfully tamed... 1 is still very stubborn... always think I'm big giant human who will eat him... maybe his personality... oh well... still ongoing taming + the guinea pigs biggrin.gif Mocha is half tamed, at least not running like mad so much when I pick her up or pet her while she eats.. but latte... OMG. Like sprinter only, kalah also jon johnson I think tongue.gif

Keep on handling and playing with ur syrian core_trace. Some is very fast, some takes time. If they angry already, dont push ur luck, respect their wishes, in turn, they will respect you nod.gif

ps: MoFo is the tamest since he is already half tame when I got him. Now whatever I do he ignore only, lol. I poked him here there, he just dont care anymore, hahaha!

OH BTW, soulx, blurjoey+sangels, in Pets lover centre, Ikano got 2 sanko silent wheel 21 cm!!! Heheh, I just went there this evening smile.gif I see only 2 tho... dunno the price cos dont have the tags. I bet they restock the one in Sunway Pyramid as well...

If you wanna the wheel fast, better go check out lor. If can wait, then maybe can bulk order the wodent wheel. I am not buying big wheel as of now, maybe for another few months, all my 3 syrians are still small, the habitrail playground wheel is more than comfortable for them ... for now tongue.gif

Waa, so much trouble with syrians from pet shops? Went to the pet store area in Pudu market, the syrians there were so underaged and small, a batch kept in tupperware with burnt holes, the other batches in typical trays with make shift fencing as the cover. Haih, poor things.
*
Well, I look at it as saving what I can. smile.gif I think if you really love your animals, u will try as hard and be your most patient in training them, hehe. And no point forcing and pushing the taming process, need to respect them lor.. like human also, the more ppl push, the more you wanna b**ch slap them, LMFAO.

by the way, guys and gals,

when you all say "tame", can further explain.

I can hold my 2 RC tho they try to get away from my hand.
They will come forward to the cage front when I am approaching.
Even when they are sleeping, they will wake up when I sit and watch.
Is that consider tame?
Edit: One more thing, sometime they like to nip my hand but one in a while they really bite till can see blood. Is tat normal?
*
For me tame are (based on my hamster, each has a degree of tameness):
1. I come near and put my hands in the tanks, the come sniff sniff (not biting) instead of running for their life.
2. When your hands in their cage, they will step onto your palm or at least walking on it instead of running for their life.
3. when u try pick them up, the will not turn their body and try to bit you or run for their life.
4. When u manage to pick them up and onto your palm, they will not fly out of your hands, instead they will explore and sniff sniff. No biting.
5. You yourself is not nervous like hell waiting to be bitten because you know they wont. You can feel their trust in you actually.
6. (this is only MoFo), when you poke poke them they just ignore it or they just try to sniff sniff your finger/hands because they want to be pickup. smile.gif

I never been bitten by any of them. Well, the babies tried before, but I back off when they get agitated and sakit hati with me biggrin.gif I still dont allow my 9 yrs old sister to pick up the rest of the babies, when she came visit, only MoFo is allowed to be pickup by her (under close supervision) because I know MoFo won't bite if he is accidently been roughly handled.

its ok if poo bcoz its in solid state......but pee is in liquid....
so far three people had been the victims including me,haha

maybe i need to let her grow a little more? hmm.gif
*
I've been peed and pooed by a sugar glider at the petshop, hahha. None of my babies peed or pooed on me before... (phew).
But I read somewhere sometimes they peed cos they are scared... ? Hmm... if she peed on you cos she's scared, no point waiting her to grow bit more... you should continue handling her and get her used to that idea smile.gif Pee only lah... hehehe.

Please weave the wheel with a cardboard paper / manila card. It can even hurt syrians, let alone small robos. As you know, hamsters love the wheels and they will run like crazy inside it. Wrong step and the legs can get into the holes while it's spinning fast... unsure.gif I can't get myself to imagine, it's horror! Hmm... anyway, maybe u should take out the wheel for a while until the leg heals. Constant use of that leg will worsen the condition, I think?

Hope your robo gets well soon! smile.gif

Question : my hammy gave birth. (yay!) but the babies are spread all over the tank. one in the tube. another near water bottle. another at another corner. spotted 3 so far, unknown total number. *yes yes, i look at the babies within less than 24 hrs.*

so is this baby relocation business normal for hammies?
*
I'm not really a master in hamsters caring... but I think babies should be in one place, in the nest with the mom.
I read if you find the babies all over, take a spoon, rub it in the bedding so that the spoon imitate the surrounding smell, scoop the babies and put back in the nest. DO NOT touch the babies with your hands, it will get eaten by the mom when she didn't recognised them anymore. I hope you do this fast, cos they can get cold easily and die sad.gif

Good luck with the babies.

They are usually at the rows infront of cineleisure. If not on the right side, on the left side. It's just a stall... and they have syrians and dwarfs for sale usually. I've only seen once they sell suggies and scorpions. Most of the times only the hamsters. They also have beddings and food available. But not a lot of choice, food is the own mix variety... and the beddings are the pine bedding.

Ya mine does it too! gives the impression that they're surrendeing their priced possesions (food, what else?) to exchange for their freedom.

Hahahah, cute. Like saying... take my food, let me go... alright?

Unlike MoFo, who will just take whatever i gave him (kuaci, yoghurt drop, nuts) and stuff it into his face... even if i give 5 things in a row... while looking at me with a look that said: "Ok, ok... I am done. See? No Food. Pick me up already" or sometimes... "See? See? Food... no Food. U like? Magic. Now pick me up already!"
